I belive if it has been colored that would kill anything there. Just pick them off if you find them. If it is natural they may be alive.

  • Lice need human blood to survive and most will die within 24 hours if they can not find a "meal".
  • Lice lay eggs (nits) on the hair close to the scalp. It takes about 6 days for the nits to hatch. Nits have to be on the hair near the scalp in order to hatch. Nits which have been dislodged will not hatch in the environment.
  • Hope that clears up your worries xx

well its been in a package for 5 days, so hopefully my little sister won't get any companions from her adventure with my extensions :P ( last time she cut them up, at least she left my scissors alone this time :P)

I don't think you'll have any thing to worry about, kate.  SAS once posted a huge thread all about lice/nits and that sort of thing.   I wonder if I could rummage it up...

yeh I got some hair sometime ago that had nits..but I didnt notice it until I really was looking at the hair and I hadn't heard about nits in hair  indian hair until I got on the boards.  I had my hair on my bed and was freaked out big time. Changed the sheets immediately and did a search on some forums and it seems that they have been away from a head to be alive and kicking.  I betcha this hair sits in storage for months too before its shipped. My hairs nits were kinda down farther on the shaft. It was really creepy. I picked them off with tweezers. ewwwwy  Nobody in my house caught anything..but I did itch for 4 days after. lol

Oh I'm just a sloppy writer. I'm sure I don't make any sense half of the time.  I'm just saying I've read that by the time you get the hair everything is long dead and you can't catch anything from the hair and that the nits are dead shells.

You might read this. This made me feel better.

yes, the first time I saw the nits in indian hair it freaked me out a bit too. But SAS gave me the low down on it and I read about it, and now it doesnt bother me at all. Live lice cannot survive off the head for more than 24 hours. And what you see in the wefts of hair is just the shell that is attached to the hair shaft. The way I see it the inconvience of picking out the nits is worth the quality that you get with the indian hair.

What is the best way to get those shells off sherrie? I have a hell of a time getting the buggers off. It doesn't gross me out, really - I've picked fleas off my cats how many times? And those were alive, lol. But they are on the strand so tight! The only thing that dislodges them is scraping my nail down the strand, and that's time consuming and makes the hair frizzy.

Sans:  those nit combs work for removal. U can get at walmart/greens. U apply a gel then run the comb (included in box) thru hair and it takes out nits. Still timeconsuming, but maybe faster than doing by hand
