My roommate has med. brown hair with blonde highlights, she wants me to give her strand by strand extensions with fusion, but my only problem is i am not sure how to match the blonde extensions with the blonde highlighted hair . i asked if she would let me take her brown allover and then do the extensions and she said NO NO NO how do you guys match the colors up?

how far fromt he top of her head is she highlighted?

Just the stuff growing out the very top?  Or through and through?

You might not need much of the blond if she is highlighted only on top...

As for matching.  A lot of guess work and color rings.

she is highlighted ALL over, her whole head is foiled 2 blonde foils and then one dark brown foil.

You need a swatch to match her up or go to a store with her and buy it there. You will find a nice pre blended blond for her highlights and then her base and maybe eaven throw in some solid blonds. You just have to use your eyes and figure out how much you need of each. Every one is diferent if you post a photo and let us know what hair your going to use we could help more.

When I had highlights I had a time matching colors.i had highlights and lowlights.But I bought one bag of the solid brown.And then a bag of light blonde.Then i would tone with demi dyes to match the different colors.I then made piles of different colors.And pulled them out to match each strand as close as possible.It turned out really good.The match was awsome.It was the hair that wasnt so great,lol.

Hi. I had a question about coloring in another thread and was wondering if any of you more practiced colorists could tell me if it is safe to recolor hair? Like the next day? We are trying to lift some black to medium/dark brown and having no luck.  We are using those hi lift brunette Loreal kits.  I can't believe how hard it is to get to brown on this hair.  Anyway, we let it siit for 30minutes. We really dont want to bleach.  Do you think it would be safe to recolor tomorrow the very same color and let it sit longer? Will it make a difference?

We are talking about processed extension hair? If so Color will not lift it much if at all. I would not do it ,it's not colored the same way to begin with and when I have lightened in the past the hair comes out sticky. I would buy more hair. You can put semi permanent color on extension hair to darken. If this hair is virgin then there should not have been a problem. Hope this helps.

yeah I agree with marie,cherrycoke.Its dicey.but I saw that the hair was virgin hair to begin with.Maybe try a color remover first.It should leave it orangey red.Which would be more than suitable to put a gentle dye over.I have never dealt with virgin hair before though,so maybe someone else will chime in.

I don't think h ow often you color counts as much with hair that is not attached to your head.  Just how much.  It's not like on your head where there are protective oils secreted by your scalp and distributed to the hair.
