Has anyone gotten this permanent straightening done?  I'm thinking of having it done but not sure if it's safe or if it works.
Thanks.

The salon I go to does it - www.studioksalon.com

They sent me an email about it which is below.  When I went in, they said Japanese Straightening is so damaging that you can't ever wear your hair in ponytail or let it blow in the wind b/c it will break off...not sure how true that is...

EMAIL FROM SALON:
These are guaranteed on the reversion only if the customer uses the products
we tell them to use for after care.  The main ingredient is Thio as you
indicated.  The process prevents damage because it is mixed with a covalent
healing process and ingredient that actually creates healthier hair then
prior to it's straightening process.  The reversion is minimal with regular
treatment.  The roots and re-growth of course, come as your hair grows.
Most customers get their hair thermally straightened once every three to
four months.

Straight effects of this sort are very similar to the Japanese one, and most
Asian people find it comparable to their Japanese straightening.  However,
with our process, you can still ride in a convertible, tie your hair up,
etc., and there is no issue with having to treat your hair differently
except for the products you use on it.

You cannot expect 'straight as a broom' hair with this process.  It reduces
curl pattern greatly, and can make hair much more manageable and tame,
however, it is NOT a relaxer as some people are familiar with.

One thing for sure, the client must be honest about the history of their
hair prior to this service.  One lady indicated she had no 'bleach' on her
hair, and underneath four applications of over-the-counter loreal
duo-process color/highlights, she had some hair that was not behaving as we
are familiar with.  We did actually get Dr. Hunter, the scientist behind
this product on the phone, and he indicated that the hair would heal itself
with the thermal application and it surely did.  I was very thrilled with
the integrity of this product on that situation.

We've had nothing but wonderful results with this process.
Hope this answers your question, and if you have any further questions,
please let me know.
Thank you,
Studio K Salon

Just skip it.  It's terrible to your hair's condition.  Naturally straight, wavy and curly are all beautiful textures for hair.  Find a good cleansing and conditioning routine that will enhance the natural beauty of your own hair.  Once you find products and a routine that work for you, you'll never again think about "Japanese straightening."
