Another going back to natural color post

 I am a natural blonde but have been dying my hair brown for a while.  I stopped dying it in february and have been letting it fade which it has drastically. my roots have also been a darker blonde so its hard to see my roots.  I was thinking of highlighting my hair a color close to my natural one.  I'm just scared that I won't be able to because my natural color is ashy blonde and that i'll get really yellow or white highlights and it'll show up a different color  where my roots are.  I don't want to bleach or strip my hair either.  Any suggestions?
