GL was out of the shampoo set on the day of installation so now I have my headful of GL extensions, but still havent got my shampoo.  Is it true I must use their shampoo, I guess my question should be, how crucial it is to use their shampoo and their shampoo only?  Also, am I supposed to get a brush with the shampoo set?

I am a bit troubled after reading all the post about how important maintenance is.  I didnt get an instruction sheet, my stylist keeps forgeting to give it to me.

Anyways, what kind of brush am I supposed to use to brush my hair?  My stylist has mentioned to use a soft bristle brush but how exactly does it look like?  I kinda have an idea but just want to make sure I am using the right type of brush.  I asked my stylist to show me a similar one but she didnt have any.

Also when I brush my hair it tends to get stuck at the root, not that it is totally stuck, but you can hear and feel that it is not brushing down smoothly.  So should I stop there and brush from top again?

Please help, I dont want to get an F on hair maintenance .

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Boars bristle is what they most likely use however I find a good old wire wig brush the best for brushing the ends out. And a loop brush for scalp. Loop is sold at Sallys if threre is one by you. My boars brush just sits in the basket. I don't know what shampoo they sell so I can't help you there. I can't see shampoo making a big diference though.

I agree with Marie--you should get a looper for the roots (I got mine from haircandy.net). I like a boar's hair brush for smoothing, but they're not necessarily the best for detangling; for the latter, I prefer a wide-tooth comb. Whatever you use, just be careful, start at the ends, and work your way up. You want to make sure you're not getting too much matting at the root, but at the same time, you don't want to mess with the roots so much that you'll compromise the bonds.

When I had GLs, I wasn't given any special shampoo. It seems like some GLs stylists prefer that their clients use anti-tap (which, I imagine, is better for preserving the bonds), while others don't seem to care much. In general, though, GLs adhere pretty well. I lost a few while I wore them, but not many. Just make sure to keep conditioner and shine sprays away from the roots, and you should be OK, I think.

:)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I guess I will just use the wide tooth comb for now.

This is my 3rd day after installation and i think 3 has already came off.  Yesterday thank god i was already home, one came off but was hanging on to the rest of the hair.  I have short straight hair so one sticking out is pretty obvious.  I am now a bit paranoid my extensions will continue to come out while in public, not a pretty scene.

I agree with the other post about the looper brush, but not the part about shampoo. The type of shampoo you use is very important. Shampoos with sulfates can cause the bonds to breakdown. GL shampoo is good but there is also a great brand of sudzfx.
