If you hair is blonde now and you want to go back to brown you need to fill in with a red filler before applying the brown or you could end up with orange hair. If you can afford it goto a salon and have it done professionally.
Hi, and welcome! I'm not a pro, I just do my own head.
If you want to go darker from blond, you do have to be careful to not
get a funny color on those highlights. And the dye you use may
have little effect on the lowlights if they're much darker. If
your highlights are yellow blonde, you'd probably be safe using a dye
with a violet base, but it still may go a little purple. If your
highlights are at all white, you will have to use a filler
(either by dying them brown twice with two opposing base shades of
brown, or by using a protein filler...I've used the opposing shade
route on myself, but I've never used a protein filler - I hear on this
board they work well).
If you are not familiar with bases in colors, or are unsure what to
do (and since you want to go back to your natural color), you may
want to just have your stylist do it this last time since she has been
doing a good job in the past.

I just found this forum and I think it's GREAT!! My dilemma is this... I have been having my hair done in a salon for 5 or 6 years now. I have naturally light/med brown hair. I want to go back to my original color. My stylist puts highlights and lowlights in my hair. It is blonde, multi dimensional. Is it safe for me to color my hair myself. I'm scared. I don't want to end up with orange hair or anything.
I'm wondering if since my hair has different shades of blonde in it, will it still be different shades if I go back to brown. That would be ok, I'm just curious.
