QuoteReplyTopic: Re-coloring and highlighting Posted: September 20 2005 at 4:49pm
Hello! My naturally dark brown hair is professionally colored a medium neutral brown with golden highlights. I would like to darken (deepen) the color to a richer brown shade and have it re-highlighted with chunky caramel highlights. T
Would this be damaging to my hair?
Thanks!

And the rule of thumb is that the more deposit, less lift (i.e. going from a
lighter to a darker shade) the less damage. It is lifting the color -
bleaching for the most part - that does the real damage. Take good care
of your hair and you should be fine! Just make sure to buy a color
protectant shampoo and conditioner like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette so
you won't end up dying your whole head every time you just want to
touch-up your roots.
Does the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette deposit any color? The
tube says that it doesn't but my friend uses it and her hair is now
very dark. She said she has not colored it and has only been
using the Brilliant Brunette shampoo/conditioner. I've never seen
her hair that dark before. I was amazed that she didn't dye it.
