I recently got caramel highlights in my virgin dark brown hair. The stylist had to bleach the areas first then tone. However, now I want a solid blonde-caramel color and I have an appointment to get that in three weeks. I'm concerned about getting all of my hair bleached in order to apply the new color because the highlighted parts will get a second shot of bleach. Is this right? Will this be very damaging to my hair?

No, the colorist should not apply bleach to the already highlighted areas. Call your colorist and ask what the "plan" is, and if it's to rebleach already highlighted parts find another colorist. The colorist should separate out those already bleached areas and only apply bleach to the other strands. Especially if the goal is to make all the hair the same color.
The only thing is that I think she used a weave technique to do the
highlights where the lighter strands are mixed in with the darker ones
and there aren't any chunks of color, so I'm not sure if it's possible to
separate out the highlighted parts.

I think you are right Kelly, it would take forever to hightlight only the regrowth. My wife has hers done every six weeks, her stylist rebleaches and retones the same hair over and over.

My Goodness, highlights shouldn't be overlapped at all. I'm surprised your wife has hair on her head. Hair really can take only about three bleachings before it's fried and starts to break off. Her hair style must be a VERY short one in order to handle such frequent abuse.

Well, mine wasn't short. It was about the length it is now with long layers. I only got about 1/2 inch cut off everytime I got my highlights redone at 6-8 weeks. What was worse was she used a cap instead of foil. If she wasn't so damn good.....I would have gone to someone else. I hated that the bleach didn't get all the way to the root. I never felt I had a problem with my hair.....even in the summer months when I swam and was in the sun alot. I guess I got lucky on that one. Come to think of it, though....we hair was pretty light naturally back then. Maybe she didn't have to use much?

Yes, the lighter your hair the less time with the bleach, also the less damage. It's much more damaging to bleach from black to pale yellow than from say medium blonde to pale yellow. I also had my highlights relaped over and over before, my hair just turned white LOL! and I stopped getting it done, but I never had breakage problems either. Also, my hair is between lightest golden brown and Dark blonde. So pretty light to begin with.
Her hair is between 4 and 6 inches long. My ex GF, who keep her hair at or below should length kept her hair highlighted blonde for the 6 years we were together. I knew in both cases they had more than just roots rebleached.
