QuoteReplyTopic: Grey wont hold color Posted: November 15 2005 at 4:26pm
I have very light/grey blonde hair. For the last oh maybe 8-10 years my hair won't hold color of any volumn. After about a week the color is gone. I've tried Grey Magic and Blonde Hold from Sally's. I've also tried coloring a much darker color to hopefully fade to the right color and that even disappears. this light blonde / grey color makes me look much old than I am. Any suggestions?

How long are you leaving the dye on your hair? To get the best deposit for grey hair, you should use a 20 vol. peroxide, and leave the color to process for 45 mins.
Also, don't pull the color through to the ends--only touch up your roots when redoing your color--, which just makes your hair dry and porous. Porous, dry hair won't hold color long. You may need to start using a demi along with a neutral protein filler to tone the midsection and ends of the hair.
I know Clairol has grey busters; have you tried those yet? 88N is a light neutral blonde color. You could try that. See swatch below:
What is grey busters? Is this something at is built into the product? Am I understanding you right that I should use a semi perm color first and then use the Clariol with the grey buster afterwards?

It's a product that is sold Sally Beauty Supply. The bottles of MISS CLAIROL color are labeled as grey busters. The Brand is MISS CLAIROL. I imagine that the grey busters is in the color, although I am not sure what it is, but have seen others have excellent results using this product.
Use the Clairols Grey Busters to retouch your grey roots as the new growth comes in. Remember that pulling color through your hair from the roots to the ends to "refresh" the color only dries your hair out and makes it very porous and difficult to hold color.
To refresh the midsection of your hair and the ends of your hair, use a demi in a complimentary shade (clairol compliments). You also may want to apply a neutral protein filler, prior to coloring the midsection and ends, to help the color stay in the ends better.
Hope this helps!
