My hair is 31 inches from front hairline back. On me this is 2 inches or so from my waist. I`ve been growing it basically from summer 1998. I feel "prettier" with long hair, but not necessarily more confident.
Good for you snow white. I personally think long hair is truely the beauty of all ladies. This coming from a male who adores long hair on women. The work and process you go through to have it that long, I just applaud you all. Brandi, great to know you also have very long hair. If anyone wants to write to me or chat about hair, please do so. I am looking forward to it.
My hair is currently about 28 inches long or Mid Back on a 5`11" person.
In spring 1994 my hair was about shoulder length and I went and got it cut to about 3 inches all over. It was the first time I had gone for a haircut on my own and had what I wanted done and not what my parents wanted. after that I let it grow and I did not get it trimmed until I believe late 97. I did end up loosing a few inches length but I didn`t mind since no one even noticed or if they did they didn`t say so. After that I was trimming pretty regularly so I was maintaining at about 3 inches below my shoulders. At the time I was working in a factory type place so I wanted my hair long enough to tuck under my hat.
My last trim was around May of 01 so next time I trim I`ll probably need at least an inch or so off.
Now being a male with long hair isn`t easy but frankly as far as confidence goes I don`t know if it helps or not.
I was teased so much as a kid for other reasons that I have always had a hard time looking at people for fear of them accusing me of staring. So I don`t really notice if they are looking at me or not. When I go out my hair is in a ponytail. If they don`t like the way I look oh well. Considering the facial birth defect I was born with I don`t think I was put on this earth to be perfect and anyone who expects me to fit some "Normal" mode can go back to their "Normal" world. There is no such thing as Normal. What people consider normal today was not normal 20 years ago, or 30 years ago, or 40 years ago....... so who are "They" to tell me what is "Normal" or "In"?
I don`t know if it made me confident but it sure brings out the fight in me.
My hair is 21 inches long. I measured from the crown of my head to my waist. I am petite and have a short torso.
In January of 1997, my babies were 3 years old and 6 months old and my hair was to my tailbone. After having so much of my hair pulled out by my dauthers, I had 17 inches cut off, up to my shoulder blades. I ususally get about 2 inches trimmed every 6 months, so it has taken me about 5 years to reach my waist.
I do feel more confident that I look younger than my birth certificate reads: March of 1967 ;)
I have posted this before, but just in case you did not see it: I am going to have 12 inches cut off next month. I am donating it to www.wigsforkids.com When I had my hair cut in 1997 I was not aware of the program and I have had some friends pass away from cancer. This is just a little way for me to help.
Keep Smilin` Dorothy :)

Just make sure you check the place out before you donate your beautiful hair. Make sure they are doing what they say they are doing. You can try the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org. I know they have information on Locks of Love which claims to be the same type of charity.
Thanks for your concern. I have seen a BBB report on Locks of Love and was not very happy that they charge cancer patients for their wigs. That is why I have decided to go with Wigs for Kids, they do not charge patients for the wigs.
Doro, when will the big day be next month? Are you a little nervous about going through with it? I think you are doing such a wonderful thing donating it to a real worthy cause. I`m like you, I have heard some bad publicity from L.O.L. Anyways, it will be sad to see you lose soo much length though. Also, your homepage doesn`t seem to be working. If you have msn messenger Doro, I would love to chat with you right up to your big day if this is ok with you. Heres my name: garyfor3@hotmail.com

One question, Dorothy... Do you know that Wigs for Kids needs your hair any more than locks ov love?
Two comments... I am sorry that you lost your friends to cancer. It`s tragic. But as for hair for cancer patients, doctors who treat it don`t want patients to use human-hair wigs because they`re much harder to sterilize than synthetic wigs.
And lastly, a suggestion, if I may... Keep your hair, and if want to help current and future cancer patients, consider a monetary donation to the American Cancer Society.

My hair is 41 inches. I think any hait taht is waistlenght or longer is really long hair. I started to let my hair grow in 1994. Since my hair is over 40 inches I `m really happy with it. When you`re happy you feel confident. I feel better and younger. I agree with Natalie that i feel "prettier with long hair.

My hair is 40 1/4" long. That puts it about 2 inches from classic length on me. I have not cut more than a couple inches at a time in 15 years. I grew it from a 1"pixie cut to my hips in 8 years (with regular trims), maintained it between my waist and hips for 7 years, and decided to let it get longer again in December of last year. If I had not trimmed at all since I started tracking it in December, I would have had 8 1/2 inches of growth. As it is, I have kept 4 1/2 inches of that new growth. As soon as my hair reaches past my butt, I`m going to start maintaining it again to thicken up and even out the ends. Once it`s thicker and more even, I`m going to let it grow for awhile until it looks like it needs a trim. My ultimate goal is to see how long it will grow, or as long as I can handle taking care of it without help. I figure with my rate of growth, including trims, it could reach the floor in about 4 1/2 years.
I think anyone can look good with long hair. As long as it`s healthy, it can look stunning with any type of hair. I wear mine long because I think I look better with it long. I like to play with it. It looks more and more beautiful the longer it gets, and I stand out from the crowd. Last night I was at the Olive Garden with a friend, and I had my hair in a `do that he and I came up with earlier that evening. I had a silk scarf braided as one of the three sections, and the scarf ended where my hair ended when it was loose. It got too heavy, so I took it out, and about 3/4 the people who had seen me with it braided like that started making lots of comments, and the waitress immediately looked alot happier and complimented my hair and asked me all sorts of questions about it. I guess people didn`t realize that my hair was as long as it was.
The longer it gets, the more fun people`s reactions get.
