Need suggestions on what to do..

So this is my current hair:

I'm a tall guy (6"2 if that means anything), and this is what my hair looks like the day after is it cut, right after I get out of the shower with some gel in it. Now I dont have a problem with this, I like how it looks. The problem is, when it's not gelled it looks terrible, it just goes everywhere and is thick and retarded. My hair has like 5 cowlicks on it, the worst being on the right side of my head. (Spikes terrible) It also grows out and starts to curl and is impossible to spike in like 2 weeks, is there some better style out there for me? I shampoo my hair everyday, but that is about it. I'm thinking maybe a style like this,

Would work well on me?

I dont really have any main "style", But I guess I'm a little bit more preppy than anything else, and definentley not a guido, emo kinda person. I'm just trying to figure out a more long-term, managabeable style.
