Any advice for moistening up extensions? I can put leave-in conditioner on them and 2 hours later they're dry and tangly again. I hate that. I use Biolage shampoo about every 2-3 days and the Pantene 3-minute deep conditioner and have been using the Infusium leave-in stuff every day, sometimes twice a day for them.
HELP!!

Didn't you say that you had the 50% mink hair installed. That hair really does not hold up very well. My first extensions were those and it didn't take long before they tangled and dried out, partly because of my care and partly because the hair just wasn't that great (I could never simply brush through it, even from the first day).
I had extensions get really dry recently with Lush hair that I probably messed up by using questionable products on them. The ends were like straw and made a crunching sound when I squeezed them. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Serum fixed the dryness (it has a lot of great oils like almond and olive) but the tangling never did get better. I was brushing my hair like every 2 hours to keep them from making huge knots.
The best you can do in my limited experience is condition them and brush them often and gently.
It's just been the past week I've noticed the dryness. Maybe it's just they need to be replaced. They have moved down quite a bit. Of course, the extension lady (as I affectionately call her) isn't going to be back for a few weeks yet.

I have found that proclaim shine serum from sally's and a flat iron do wonders! When I use the proclaim and flat iron my extensions they don't have to be brushed all day long and they last and last! I use hair from rk hair products, the hair doesn't have the greatest rep but I have not had any problems with it personally. I have also found that the proclaim doesn't cause the bonds to break down fast like other shine serums do, my last shrinkie install lasted 3 months and I didn't even lose 1 bond!
I use Biolage shampoo about every 2-3 days and the Pantene 3-minute deep conditioner and have been using the Infusium leave-in stuff every day, sometimes twice a day for them.

you use good shampoo and over the counter conditioner>>??? sorry i just dont get it.Infusim has alot of protein in it and that could be the start of your dryness. I would suggust you find the thread that i gave help in about shampoos and what i personally reccommend.
Pantene opens up the shaft and keeps it open so the hair "appears" to be full - what it actually is doing is opening up the cuticle and drying it out.
do yourself a favor and use PROFESSIONAL products ONLY for ANY extensions.
good luck.
i would also try the oil and flat iron method like the previous post. Only i would reccommend the biolage smooth line, it has a flat iron spray with a bit of oil in it, it works fab!

Actually, the Biolage is Suave. It's the same stuff. I don't ever see any difference in all that expensive stuff. I should also mention that it's only dry 2 days after I wash it. Maybe I just need to wash it every other day instead of waiting 3.
Somebody recommended the Pantene deep conditioner in another thread. Not to make anybody crabby on here, but I never have used so-called professional products as I see no difference other than my wallet deflating a lot faster. JMO
You are so lucky that your hair can do well with the OTC stuff. I can honestly say that my hair (and currently extension hair) looks it's best when I used products recommended to me by a professional. My natural hair is a real challenge, it is fine, thin, oily and one of the ugliest colors on earth. I have spent the most of the past 25 years processing my hair in some way (color, bleach, perms!). I have wasted more money on OTC products of all kinds (gels, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray) that did nothing for my hair ithan I have spent on recommended professional products. Even today, I keep trying... but I always end up giving the products to my teenage sons when they turn out to do nothing for my hair.
All professional products are not created equal, notice my emphasis on professionally recommended products! My hair and extensions have benefited greatly by Tangles suggestions. Yes, professional products can be pricey, OK, ARE pricey, but the right ones can be the difference between just as good as hair and great hair IMHO.

Yeah, I agree on both sides. I've tried a lot (of course not as much as
some professionals on here) but some professional products I could not
live without. I am poor, and hate spending the money too, but they way I
look at it is, hey, if you are going to spend that much money on the
extensions, why not spend an extra 20 to keep them nice?
On the other hand, some of my cheap, basic stuff, works wonders on my
hair. But if you are having problems, just try spending a few extra bucks
and see what comes of it.
When my hair gets dry, what seems to help me is putting herbal essence
tip conditioner throughout the hair at night, comb it out really good, do a
few small braids, and then in the morning, rinse it out, and style your hair
and finish off with biosilk shine serum. That is something definately
worth spending a few extra bucks on. I can't live without that!
Goodluck though. Part of it might be the weather, it seems like everyone,
even people without extensions are having problems.
Well, wouldn't you know I had been just using baby shampoo on them at first and they were really dry and then I have been using this "better" shampoo on them the past 3 times and this time, no joke, after I wrote about my dry problem, today is the second day after washing and my hair is still soft. I haven't used the Infusium this time either though except to get a tangle or two out when I got out of the shower. Maybe that's it.
Oh please don't say you're using a commercial Baby Shampoo. This shampoo has one purpose -- to be made with the totally wrong pH for human hair that promotes a "tear free" experience and to cure cradle cap. It's one of the worst possible things you can put on your hair.
I just said I don't use baby shampoo anymore and have seen an improvement today in my hair. EESH Jump all over me why don't ya. I don't plan on wearing the extensions that much longer anyway and just wanted some advice.
I use a Suave shampoo that is the same as Biolage and have seen dramatic improvement over the week. It wasn't so much at first but now it has been 2 days since I washed last and it's still baby soft so I think this must be working.
Incidentally, I sounded quite witchy in that last post and didn't mean to. My pregnancy hormones are having that affect on me it seems.
That's ok. No problem at all. You're pregnant? Congratulations!
I had no idea Suave and Biolage were the same. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and there was a huge comparison on high-priced beauty/hair products and lower-priced store brands some time ago and the results were shocking. Look at those labels!
