I've been lurking for the past few weeks and have found out most of what I need to know to fix my problem.
About 6 weeks ago, I went to a new hair stylist to save money on my highligts. Big mistake! It has cost my way more than I would have paid to a master professional. Anyway, I ask for medium blond highlights. I've been getting my hair highlighted for about 2 years now. This girl put this pasty stuff all over my hair. To make a long story short I ended up with loud yellow hair in about 2 minutes flat. The next day my scalp was itching and burning like crazy. I wore a wig to cover it up.
2 days later, I put Miss Clairol semi-permanent medium brown color on it. That turned it a greenish yellow. Then I put a wine brown color on, that turned it a reddish brown, but it was too red. Then I put darkest brown on it and that turned it green. Finally I put amthyst which is a purple-red color and now it's a color I can live with, dark reddish brown. BUT! Everytime I wash my hair, most of the semi-permanent color washes out, so I have to add more color everytime I wash my hair.
From reading the posts on this board, I now know that the color is not holding because of damaged hair. You guys have also taught me that I need to add a filler before coloring and I need to get a color that's about 2 shades lighter than what I want.
I want to get back to my natural color so I want have to dye anymore. My natural color is very dark brown with reddish brown highlights, from relaxing my hair and sun exposure. I'm confused about what color filler I need. I bought the Colorful Warm Brown #2 from Sally, but what I hear on this board I may need the Red Red #10? I understand that the color will come out darker than I want and many of you have complained about goth black hair. Black hair is not a problem for me, but I don't want to look like I put black shoe polish on my hair. In my case, would 2 shades lighter than what I want be enough to keep my hair from getting shoe polish black? Should I use a permanent or demi on my hair? Would clear toner or gloss do any good for me?
I really would like these questions answered, because I plan to try the big experiment tomorrow after work.

Have a look at my posting "How I corrected my overbleached highlights" and see if there is anything there that might help your situation. I find that Dark Blonde is pretty neutral colour.
