QuoteReplyTopic: Return to previous color possible? Posted: February 06 2006 at 2:21am
I made a mistake but it's one I will accept since I can't make up my mind lol.
Well, prior to current color I have heavily highlighted blonde hair that's
between level 8 to 9. About a month ago I dyed my hair black with Clairol
Natural Instincts Midnight. I didn't like the color in spite of being a pretty
color but it doesn't suit me as I originally thought. Is it possible to return to
my old highlights using ColorFix or grow it out first? I'm willing to have
several inches cut out to get rid of dead ends and to re-do blonde hair. I am
also looking at the alternative: waiting about 6 months or till this summer,
have a major trim (3 to 4 inches off) so my hair would be just past my
shoulders than my current bra length hair, and get rid of black dye and do
blonde gradually. My hair does feel dry but overall healthy and not breaking
at all. I'd like to achieve down the road a pale blonde that's almost platinum
but not too light. Need your help!

Black is sooo hard to remove, even with a semi like Natural instincts. I would think that colorfix will only get you to a brown color, and I think it would be unwise to have your hair bleached to remove color. I don't really know, but I think getting you back to blonde will be a looooong process. You may find that you have to grow it all out first, which I know does take forever. Just be careful to avoid frying your hair. I dried mine out alot with heavy highlights followed by several dye jobs to get back to my natural dark color. I'm finally able to cut out all of the damage and return to my natural hair, but it is short right now!!! Too short. So now though it isn't dry and icky, it needs to grow before I like it.
