hey guys! well i've been wanting to dye my hair red, kind of like a dark auburn or a plum color. something like this:

 or

anyways my hair right now has been dyed to a dark brown with blonde and brown highlights. i was wondering how long the red color stays on for because my friend told me it doesn't stay on for long and starts to fade after a while. oh and if it fades what color does it turn? thanks for any help!

Please don't put color over color as it will not work.  You must first remove the old color and then tint back those blond highlights or you might end up with PINK or ORANGE highlights.

I did the burgundy colors when I was in high-school. They do fade really fast, and I always ended up with orangey-brown hair after a month or so. I agree with the advice about dying over highlights. You will have uneven color and some areas will probably turn out a bit funky.

That 2nd hair dye there, I've used that - my hair went brown/black, and then faded really quickly to red/brown.

But the red/brown colour lasted for a while actually, it just looked a bit dull...

Reds do fade easily-- I always seemed to like my burgundies the first few days after I did them, 'cause they'd go much less burgundy after that.  But I never had much problem with them fading to an ugly shade, just a less intense one.  *shrugs*
