My hair would never grow past shoulder-skimming length, so I have kept it cut short (chin length) since college. About 3 years ago, I began to color my hair various shades and it began to break off last year. Since then, I stopped coloring and relaxing my hair and decided to go natural. My hair has continued to break and now it is one big mess of afro in the back and short straight hair on the sides and in the front of my head.
Since reading some of the posts on this board and other places, here’s my plan of action for my hair. I have read about a lot of African- American women doing the big chop to rid themselves of their relaxed hair. Since my hair is already short, I will be going to a barbershop after work and get what’s left of my hair buzzed off almost to the scalp. I have seen many women here in Atlanta with similar cuts, so I know it will be cool. I am very sure this is what I want to do after doing a lot soul searching. I was even lucky enough to find photos of a woman that had hair similar to mine get the same type cut that I want done. Check it out! Remember these are not photos me.

I think it's great that you are going to start over...they give alot of great advise here so if you use that info your hair will start growing in healthy. That's a cute cut....you could put some finger waves in it or just part slick down with gel
After getting it cut, I think I am going to keep it cut low for some time just for the ease. My hair grows really slow and I just hate having to deal with it.

I've had the big chop at least 3 times, and my hair is now bra strap length. A lot of people have shorter hair not because their hair "won't grow", but because often they're too afraid to cut off damaged hair. If your hair was very damaged, I commend you for cutting it off so that it can grow beautiful and healthy.
I live in Atlanta, and a LOT of women (especially professional women) wear their hair short like that.
Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
Goal: Waist Length, which is only 30 inches so
ADVISE ME ON HOW TO GET JUST 7 MORE INCHES OF GROWTH!

It's done! The haircut that I actually got is a little shorter than the one in picture but pretty much the same style. The barbershop that I went to is at Greenbriar Mall in Southwest Atlanta. The guy that cut my hair did a fantastic job. I also noticed that a lot of women were there getting haircuts, so this is were I will be going every two weeks for trims for a while. I 've already gotten a lot of compliments from people that saw me get my haircut in the shop. The weather is nice out today so I rode home with the windows down. The breeze felt really good on my head.

I live near Greenbriar! My son and I went there today so I could buy him some shoes at Payless.
We eat there at Picadilly's pretty often.

That was my first time there. The shop that I went to is on the same corridor of the mall as Picadilly. A guy that I work with lives near there and he recommended that shop.
Remember the pictures posted earlier are not me. Those are ones that I found on the net for illustration purposes. I just used those because the before picture was similar to my hair and the after cut is what I decided to go with since it looked so good on the girl in the picture. I just wanted to clear that up.
