I was using TOO much heat protectant !!!

Oh ok,, Im realy glad i opened this topic and wasnt
alone with this issue,, i think we all do have a
tendency to be maybe even over cautious with our
hair at times and i think in my case the over caution
as far as frying my hair with too much heat spray
could have been doing more harm than good since it
is moisture and could create dreaded bubble hair
which may lead to breaking and Pokahantas, i do
know about that frying with curler!! I wear extensions
often and i love to curl them and man o man when i
sprayed hair spray its just fries!! but i would get that
on my natural hair and i know it cant be good!!
Tijanice,, i think that the frying egg sound comes
from simple mositure being in the hair,, ( my
hairdresser used to do that to me with the flat iron
when my hair wasnt dry! ) and then overheating it
and frying the liquid into hair or something,, i dunno

Cookies, I tried your spray all over method today and my hair came out really good!  I actually use a cream heat protectant before blowdrying and I was afraid that by spraying each section before flatironing I was over doing it a bit.  So I sprayed all over my hair after it was dry, mostly on the ends, rubbed it through and flat ironed.  It had a lot of movement and was soft, not greasy... great tip!!

BTW, I have two different spray protectants...one does that fried egg thing and the other doesn't...does it have something to do with the ingredients?  The one that fries doesn't get my hair as soft...I don't know if that means it has less oil, or silicones, or more alcohol, or what...

I do  the same thing! Lol.  I am very heavy handed with the Beyond the Zone and sprayed each section....with extra on the ends, lol.  This makes my hair kinda stringy like in my signature pic but I want my hair to be protected, especially the ends because I find that flat ironing really makes them split. 

Recently I bought the Tresseme heat protectant mainly because of all the rave about their products on the show Project Runway (I'm a reality tv show junkie).  Anyway, I like it because it's not oil based so once it dries you can't even tell it's on you hair so I coat my hair with this and let it dry, then I use some Fantasia IC serum on my ends for extra protection.  My hair comes out with so much more silkiness and movement.  It's like that blow in the wind hair as opposed to the weighted down with product hair.

but i am not giving advice as far as saying its
actually healthier for the hair to do it this way!! i just
think it looks better ,, i dont know whether the hair
could be being damaged more when i use less heat
protectant which kinda scares me but im
happier with fluffier hair,, anyway tffy,,, i know the
steam is normal but mine would actually sizzle and
make that popping noise like cooking an egg becuz
the hair was so wet after my heavy duty sprayings!!
lol and that can cause "bubble hair" to form which
leads to breakage...

Cookies... I've been using Beyond the Zone and had the same greasy feeling, too.  What I did was only lightly spray my fuzzy ends and stroke my hands along the whole length of the hair to distribute it.  Before I sprayed the whole strand like it was on fire or something!!!

By the way, I read on a bottle of protectant spray that "visible vapor is a normal result of protecting the hair shaft" so I wouldn't worry to much about the steam...

For months since i discovered Fantasia heat
protectant spray I have been using wayyyy too much,
i would spray each tiny section heavily right b4 flat
ironing!! which took forever and id be kinda
dissapointed till some of the"greasies" went away,,
my hair would be stringy,, just last nite i decided to
spray it all over my dry hair,, all at once b4 i began
ironing it and not overspray ,, rub it in and then just
ironed it and it came out fluffier and lighter and im
much happier,, its not a drastic difference,,its just
that my hair doesnt have that matted look ,, it has a
bit more volume which i always struggle to get after
its flat ironed so im happy,, i think i was being a bit of
a maniac with the spraying b4 LOL becuz it
would sizzle it was so wet and i think thats bad for
the hair...
