I have had 3 consultations already in Chicago and I am sooo confused. I want thicker hair, but no length. I need 18 inch strands because my hair is long. One stylist says $1400 for 150 strands and he doesn't cut them in half. This doesn't include taking them out nor the cut & style.
Another says $1800 but I will need more strands because she cuts the extension in half because it is too thick and heavy to apply one whole extension to my own hair, which makes sense to me. It will end up being about 200-250 strands.
Another stylist says $700 for 200-250 strands. I do not know if she cuts them in half. I am waiting for her to return my call. I would assume she does for those many strands. I think I will go to her because her price is more reasonable, but I can't understand why she is so much less expensive. She is a certified extensionist on the Great Lengths website.
My question is how much do you really think they buy the hair from Great Lengths for? They say it is very, very expensive hair. I am also being told that some stylist use Socap and say it is Great Lengths because it is cheaper. Is there any way to know if it is Great Lengths?

Its hard to know whether it is great lengths hair, however i do know that if the hair doesnt perform well and its through no fault of your own (that is you look after the hair like youre supposed to) then the salon will usually send the hair back to great lengths...so if they didnt use the proper great lengths hair they could be in abit of trouble.
Great lengths has good hair, but i wouldnt say its fantastic hair for the price. $700 sounds a dang good price for GL hair so i would be suspicious lol you would need to get a guarantee from this stylist stating that the hair will last a certain period of time (usually 3 months because thats the maximum time you should really have them in for).
If you look at other options for extensions you could probably get some done for around $400-600 inc hair, way less if you go with a weft method. Have a look at the extensions 101 guide on here and it will give you an idea of some other less expensive options =)
The great lengths hair only cost about $200 for 150 strands. She is still making about $500. I have found others in New York charging about $700 also. There is just so much competition in Chicago because every salon is doing extensions now.

I was told by a stylist that work for Great Length and left them to work for So Cap, she mention that they get their hair from the same supplier, she also said she was equally happy with the results from both companies, but So Cap is a little cheaper and better customer service. Good Luck

I would have to say not to worry, I was having my GL done bya girl who only charge $300 to put them in, she would get me 4 bundles and it cost about $250 in the 12 inch. She split my in half.

My experience with GL's was fairly good. I didn't pay thousands like some people did, but I did pay a lot of money in comparison with how much I spend now to do my own.
As for the hair quality, I was very happy with it. My stylist split the bonds in half and put just under 250 in my head. When I got to the appointment, she took the hair out of a box, it was wrapped in tissue paper that the GL printed all over it, and it had a tag that also said GL on it. If you are in doubt about the hair quality, ask to see the hair before she does any prep to it.
I liked my GL's, but I LOVE my DIY's more!!! The main reasons are: cost effective, I can do them to my own schedule and it doesn't take me hours upon hours, and I can change them when ever I want to!!!
If you are looking to just get fullness, I would really consider DIY. If you start with using the Pro-tac you will find out how easy it is to apply them, then as you get more experience you can move onto the strand by strand method. I personally started out with shrink***, then used LG to apply wefts, and now I am using Pro-tac. I can remove a set, wash them, and re-apply them all in 2 hours. That also includes getting lunch for my kids.
