Hiya

I am male, and my hair is currently dark brown (medium length, fringe) and I want to go to Blonde first (but a very light cream blonde) and then later on I want pink highlights - This combination sounds sexy!  But I think it will be best if I get the pink ones to last for just a few weeks rather than permanent until I have seen what they look like!  What you think?

How many colourings would this require, as I remember last time my stylist said to go all white-cream-blonde may take a few months. ??

Also do you think this combination sounds good?

Thanks,

Mark.

I used to dye my hair quite frequently...  Hot Topic used to carry (I believe they still do) a plethora of Special Effects and Manic Panic semi-permanent colour dyes, .. I was once in the store and I wasn't too sure about what I wanted to do with my locks this particular time and so naturally, the assertive and overtly suggestive sales rep I was slightly familiar with said I should do "candy stripes" ... (This is something like the style you're referring to, but it's basically just one thick stripe of colour on each side of the scalp about and inch from the hairline)  I mentioned I was thinking about doing a pink shade and I had a similar cut and style to yours at the time.  I thought his proposition would look just fabulous but I'd opted for the usual burgundy wig effect. = )

I'm wondering what shade of pink it is you have in mind.  How many highlights and how thick?  You should really do whatever it is your heart desires... As you said the colour will fade within weeks and it should be relatively easy to dye over again but you want to be careful with bleach treatments.  I've bleached my hair countless times but I do have boundless amounts of hair (thick hair as well) and my hair is now so difficult to tame.

Honestly the bleaching process shouldn't really take that long but I've never coloured my hair outside of the home.  I personally do not trust anyone besides myself to mess with my hair, i feel I can do just as well if not better!  But I know so many people would contest with this statement and it's probably true...  You seem pretty set on having your hair treated by a professional which is wise....  So then I suggest just taking his word for it.  & YES!  This sounds like a lovely colour combo.  Normally I wouldn't consider pink highlights to be sexy (-- I've only seen it on females and then, it looks a little cliche) but on a man -- Oh the charm!!! = )  Be sure to let us know how things are rolling with this and don't forget to post photos!!

Mark1 have you thought about getting pink extension highlights? That way you just have to process your hair to get it blonde, and if you use synthetic hair for the highlights the colour wont fade! You can use human hair as well though im not too sure about whether or not the colour would fade...

Hiya!

Well thanks for your kind replies!

Living1: I would really like something like THIS SHADE OF PINK
I would like to have them mainly on the top of my head as I mite have this a little spiky too!  The last time I got highlights (blonde only) I had them on the side as well as the top but I they were a bit small.  Regarding the thickness.. Hmm I am not sure how to measure that but I would just stay the standard that you get when you go the hairdressers.  I will let you know how each stage goes anyway but and I mite do a photo.. But not until its all finished!

222chick222: Hmm pink extension highlights sounds okay, but I was just wondering what if I only wanted them for a few weeks just to try them out.. What would happen then? Would I have to wait for them to grow out?

Thanks!

Mark.

Hey Mark

In regards to the extensions, it would depend on which method of install you chose.

http://www.markglenn.com/Fashion/Gallery/Fashion003.htm

That is a highlighted look done by an extensionist (didnt have time to do a long search sorry!). Extensions are great because there are so many different methods. Micro-rings would be good for you because you can take them in and out just like that! you could even install them yourself. Seeing as you just want highlights you could get away with getting maybe 25-30 strands which wouldnt cost you much at all.

If youd like more info etc please PM me and ill give you the additional info youd need to know :) lol

Hiya,

Okay here's an update to what I hope to finally have!! lol

Went to the hairdressers today to discuss Stage 1 - Going to blonde!!  We decided to do the highlights first to see how they came out, as I have had them done before.  After the highlights were done, they weren't as blonde as I would have liked - More of a yellow tone, even after 2 applications of the peroxide!  So she recommended buying a Purple shampoo to neutralise this yellow more towards white/blonde.

Q. Can you give me some recommendations of the best ones to use to neutralize this yellow?

What I am hoping to do, is if I can get this toned down to blonde then I will try and go all over blonde and combine with the shampoo.

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

P.S. No pics are coming until I have my blonde with pink in, lol.

I suggest just lighten your hair (or have a professional lighten it) to the blonde color you'd like and then do the pink yourself.

You could a couple things to do the blonde in your hair: Clairol Born blone, L'Oreal Super Blonde and Garnier has a few blonding ones.  (Bleach Blonding, Extreme As Blonde, ect.)

the best thing to do your pink would probably be Manic Panic, they have a website or you can get their products at Sallys ..but I'm not sure how long they take to fade. You could also use L'Oreal Color Rays in Fuchsia Flash, but I'm not sure if that's the color you're wanting.

There are some of the links so you can check out the products also. Hope this helps. At Sally's they also have these little tubes that you can buy to add to your haircolor to correct brassiness or gold/yellow tones, you should probably add that to your color. Good luck!

Hiya,

Thanks for the info.

I have searched for Sally's but that is an American store and I am the UK.  can you recommend any other products that I can buy from the UK to reduce the yellow/gold brassiness?

Mark.
