QuoteReplyTopic: Tipping Question Posted: October 18 2006 at 8:45am
I'm still trying to figure out what method and what hair to use when these GL's come out in november! There's so much info on here from you girls, its so awesome! If I were to tip my own hair does that hair come off the wefts? or is there a certain type of hair i'm supposed to buy to do this? I don't even know if i'll try my hand at tipping myself, will probably go with the pre-tipped. I'd really like to try the protac since its seems easy but I just can't grasp how that is sturdy at all or undetectable? I've seen your great pics on here and they look awesome, but my luck, mine wouldn't look like that! Also if you have or use protac, how do you get highlights in there? i'm sorry girls, so many questions.!

I myself wasnt a big fan of protac, and I've worn alot of methods.but I know it has worked well for alot of others. For highlights I took a strip and cut it lengthwise down the middle. Then I pulled off one side of backing. Then I laid my hair down the strip alternating between colors.Once I got halfway down my strip I folded it over .Its better if you leave a tiny edge more on the side without the hair so when you fold it over it can overlap around abit. Then I cut the excess off the top.
Here's a pic...
It looks real crappy cause I actually trashed it.So it was stuck to about ten other strips.

Yes you can make tips off a weft.I would reccomend tipping it if you do the highlights just to cut down on any potential shedding.Tippings not too bad.It just takes alot of patience and a little practice.
Are you planning on doing a mix of individuals and protac?

I think I'm going to just do the individuals. Was thinking of doing the shrink tubes method. Course I'll have to practice first, I've already warned my sister that she is going to be my installer for the back of my head! I'd like to get the pre-tipped but I can't find anywhere that has pre-tipped Bohyme (from what i'm reading from you guys its the best?) but all i see is wefts, so that why I was thinking I'd have to tip them myself. My hair is brown, but with some blondish highlights and I just think that it might look best if i do an individual method rather than the protac

Yeah, if you tip it, you can just cut it off the weft. I like using the keratin pellets with nail glue to reinforce the tip.
With the protacs, you could still do highlights, I would just lay a whole weft down on the protac of let's say brown, then cut a blonde weft into 1 or 2 inch sections and lay it down right on top of the brown weft. I loved the results, I think it was AMM that gave me the idea, I believe she has pictures and a better explaination
so if you are thinking about trying it, you could probably do a search and find it!
