QuoteReplyTopic: styling to be "shorter" Updated: solution & pics Posted: October 24 2006 at 8:12pm
Okay long haired fellows... I need some styling suggestions.
My girlfriends and I from school are going to be catholic school girls for Halloween this weekend. I want to put my hair up in pigtails, but it's way too long to just leave down (especially for at the bar). I'm trying to come up with a way to have the ends fall to my shoulders but no longer. I've attempted to wrap it around the ponytail, but it's really hard to get a "ponytail" look that way... it doesn't fall over the bun very well. My only other idea is possibly having to use claw clips.
I just assumed someone here would have solved this dilemma at some point already... although I could be wrong. Might take a lot of experimenting on Thursday to get it right for Friday.
Thanks!
Edit: Here is the finished product.

And a few after pictures
I like how my friend did it...but I can't for the life of me replicate it myself! Tied in a knot and let the ends hang out, secure with bobby pins...oh well!

Hi Holly - you've probably already though of this, but can you fold each tail over itself once (like a big loop) and put the ponytail holder at the top (where the ends meet the beginning so to speak). It would be more of loop than a tail, but would look really cute I think.

Yeah, or you could braid each tail and fold it up the way SpecialKitty
said (its more a traditional german style than catholic, but it would
look cute).
The way I wear my hair sometimes is where I twist it downward, then
back up, putting the "back up" roll under the fold of the twisted down
part, which leaves ends sticking out the top of the fold which hang
over the folded part, and the ends hide the whole thing even if you use
a good sized claw clip on the fold to hold it. If you do the
pigtails more toward the back of your head (behind your ears), it may
work for two. You can adjust the amount of hair you fold under
making the ends that stick out longer or shorter. Do I make
sense? Let me know, if not I can try to put up some photos
explaining.

A friend of mine came up with a good idea when we were experimenting. Ponytails, and then tie each one in a knot with the ends sticking out the middle. I still get the shoulder length cascade look, except there's a big ring around each tail. Looks pretty neat...I bought us all matching ponytails with ribbons on them in different colours. I'm excited. :D
I wore pigtails until I was 9 in catholic school, after 9 it was
considered too nerdy! Then I wore them again in college when
going out sometimes (but down low, not up high like a kid).
