QuoteReplyTopic: Stinky hair - try glade plug ins Posted: December 15 2006 at 2:10pm
I've had complaints from guys before about human hair extension hair having a strange smell when it's new. One said it smelled like a machine shop. I was horrified. Ever since I've been sniffing my hair to make sure I handle the smell issue right off the bat, before applying. I've had some hair that comes to me smelling smokey, almost like cigar smoke, and that's been the smell that has proved the hardest to remove. So I've tried everything under the sun to make it smell pretty and found this answer by complete accident.
I recently ordered a carload of hair to use from different suppliers. I haven't applied any of it yet because I'm waiting until I research this new method I'm playing around with first.
Meanwhile, I washed and sprayed all the human hair with anti tap and hung it to dry.
In the room I have it drying in, one of the towel bars I hung the hair on is situated close to an electrical outlet (GFI water safe) where I had a glade plug in plugged in.
And the hair smells fabulous! The plug in permeated the ext hair with a fresh floral scent. To see if it would hold up I washed some of it a few times and still no machine shop or smoke smell. Just fresh and flowery.
oh and sorry
I meant GFI protected outlet which is safer to have around water.
It's in most kitchens and baths by code.
They're the ones with the little buttons in it that pop and shuts off the electric when it comes into contact with water, instead of starting an electrical fire/etc like a plain outlet would do. Most kitchen and bath outlets are GFI or conected to a GFI so that they are safe.
Don't put wet hair by an unprotected outlet. Check to be safe. I'd hate to be the reason someone gets electrocuted or worse
sorry for the jargon
comes from being in a family of electricians

I know what you mean halo.I noticed hair from both Rk and indianhairs came with that machine shop smell you described. It reeked of oil and smoke. But I find simple conditioner seems to get the smell out no problem. But I definitely understand. That is some stinky hair.
my RK hair was definately the 'stinkiest' i've bought...i had some little samples of essential oils, i soaked the hair in the sink for a few hours in l'oreal conditioner with several drops of essential oil (i think the one i used was ylangylang), then let it air dry outside, and FINALLY that stink was gone
