QuoteReplyTopic: Highlights for Black Hair Posted: January 09 2007 at 1:55am
Argh, I'm so frustrated.
Okay so for a while I've been really wanting to get some highlights done in my hair. I want it to be a light color against my dark hair, but when talking to a few people and searching online, most seem to think that it wouldn't look good at all.
I have tan skin and because I also have black hair and black eyebrows it sort of limits when colors I can put in my hair without looking totally drastic.
Does anyone have some suggestions or pics? I'm going to be using a new colourist this time so I really want to make sure I can show him a picture or explain it really really well.
Please, please help!!

I would say go for it, I have done an asian client with black hair and caramel hi lights , then she decided to go for red hI-lights , she looked great with both colours , although it is harder to lighten black hair , so you might only get the hi-lights to a soft caramel colour , which looks fab.

ps , if you do decide to go for the hi-lights the colourist should know to leave a section of the fringe (bang USA term) to avoid your eyebrow colour looking slightly odd, or you could get your eyebrows tinted .
Thanks for the tips on my bangs! I'll keep that in mind.
Hm, well I have a couple pictures that I'd like to take (caramel color was a great suggestion too!) except my printer is broken. Would it be too frustrating for the colorist if I took some pictures on my phone instead?
Again, thank you for replying! =)
--Also, I died my hair a few months back. Do you think it'd be important to mention this?

Definetely mention that you dyed you hair before. Virgin hair and dyed hair react differently to bleach and dye.
I have naturally black hair and I did caramel highlights awhile back. It looked good, but all the bleaching was frying my hair so it's now a weird color (that's a whole other story).

IT would be ok to let the colourist see a picture from your phone, but I would recommend you take an actual picture. There a good hair magazines out there, try them.
Yes most definetly tell them you have previouse colour on your hair, as this will make a diffrence to the end result they are trying to acheive.
