So many experiments lately trying to make skin wefts, I went the other way and started making my own hand-tied out of bulk monofiber. I have some PH being wefted right now overseas on a no beard weft so I thought I'd play with some Prohair and PH I have on hand.

This is so unbelievably easy. I've made 4oz of hand-tied with no beard (because it's synth it can be doubled over on the weft) in the exact weft lengths I need for an install so I have 5 wefts total. The length is already prelayered (no cutting needed) because you can double the hair over exactly in the length you want. So here it is! I think I've found my calling. LOL!

OMG...that's fantastic.....please do a demo.....the last demo someone did I just didn't follow....my fault I'm sure.....but maybe if we had another demo....well...between the 2 I might just get it.
Man they look good Amm......I wanna learn.....just so I can use up some bulk hair I have.....not that I want to do this on a regular basis or anything....but it would be great to know how to do.
Thanks,
JeepGirl

Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!

Thanks! I have this installed now and it's awesome. With the doubled over weft it's full but extremely light. Feels like absolutely nothing is on my head. I am so loving this and I ordered more PH this afternoon so I can make some more.

I will definitely attempt my own demo on this but without video, I don't know how it will turn out. I tried an illustration but my artistic level is one step below making stick figures.

Install pics to follow...

Right on, amm!!!  It's that DOUBLING OVER that we need to make the best use of. . .the install area is the same but the hair volume is double!!!   Rockin' cool idea and your weft looks sweeeet!

MissDeliana (one of our forum members) has a youtube demo online http://youtube.com/watch?v=9-UTrGx6pso and I followed the same recipe as hers. Fishing line is also what I used. The filament is incredibly easy to work with and once the hair is on it, it doesn't show whatsoever. More importantly, the hair glides on it which makes it superb for getting each hair loop as close as possible. The ends are tied on the one side before wefting and the tail of the knot is snipped off when finished. I raided the S.O.'s tackle box and he had 6LB line which was absolutely perfect. I wouldn't recommend any thicker line. The wefts I made for a full install took about 4 hours. The important thing when doing it this way is to measure your placement areas BEFORE making each weft and then make those wefts the exact length. Cutting these is not possible because there's no way to tie off the ends.

Thanks, Fina! You are so right. Doubling over *IS* the key. I have only three single wefts installed in back and one horseshoe weft high temple to temple ending in back at the crown. The whole underside of my head and hair is free free FREE!

That's so cool Amm, I can't believe how neat it is, actually I take that back, you excel in everything you do.  This proves we can all do what we put our minds too, well done x

Amm,

Would a zig zag stitch along the top work on plastic hair? Good job on the hand tieing it looks nice and tight.

I have taken hair & if you use tissue paper to cover while sewing at the top & stitch it on the sewing maching as close to the top as you can that would work.  assuming you need extra staying power.  I'll have to try using nylon transparent thread next.

A few things on stitching wefts..

Use a ballpoint needle versus a sharpie to avoid cutting the hair.. Use as small of a needle as possible to aid in this..

If you use paper to keep the hair from being sucked in by the feeddogs, then use a straight stitch only.. This way the paper will tear away on the perforation made from the needle.. (a zigzag stitch will not do this as the paper will be partially trapped under the stitches) I would do one row, and tear away the paper. Then do a second row "JUST" under the first. Two rows will give you the same strength as a zig zag stitch. You want to tear the paper away from the first row and use fresh paper for the second row so that the paper doesn't get trapped in the stitches.

Thanks Diva,
Very good information as ALWAYS!

My question was about synthetic hair.

I reinforce human hair wefts all the time, I've never reinforced synthetic hair. My feeddog does not pull up on the hair because I have a really old ass machine. I love it but it doesn't have the power of the newer ones..... I know ALL the new machines get stuck, and pull the hair out of the weft, no matter what size needle I use. I bought a $800. new machine which is the bomb, very powerful. I would have had to return it if it wasn't for your "tissue paper" advice.  Thanks again, Diva.

Has anyone tried to reinforce a synthetic weft?
