Red is very difficult to keep and very difficult to get out. If you dye your hair red at this point those highlights might turn pink depending on how light they are...I'd not recommending dyeing your hair red at all.
Maybe you can get a red wig instead, much safer and much less damaging to the hair.
Good luck!

I totally agree with Rebekah. This was maybe about 6 years ago when I was in high school, and knew nothing of color, but I had a very bad experience doing what you're thinking of.
I had my nice natural brown hair, with bleach highlights from a salon. I wanted to go red, but just temporarily. I never consulted the help of a professional. I got a temporary red color, might have been ColorSpa, or I don't know. This was years ago. Anyways, my natural brown ended up an awesome red color, but yup, those highlights were a rosy shade of pink. Bad bad bad bad idea. It did eventually fade, but my brown hair went back to natural long before those pink highlights went back to brown.
I personally just wouldn't bother with that if you want to keep your highlights looking great. A wig is a better choice, and you can just take it off when you're done with the color :)
