Make sure u get a light brown color.Cuz color tends to be darker than what the box looks like.An ash color does cut out red in hair.I'd get a pretty light ash brown.I tend to like golden colors, but that's me.Cuz an ash color tends to look dull. What color is her hair? Brown or what? That way I can give better advice.

I agree with Alayney. Also, just a comment about the differences between a bleached out ash color and a permanent ash color. My hair is naturally warm and when I add an ashy color, I still get a nice warm color, but it's not brassy. Permanent hair colors combine with your natural undertones and quite often, IMHO, look much different than bleached out ashy colors.
One more thing, ash can be green or blue...

Ash is "flat" -- there are no golden tones -- the opposite of gold I guess you would say. It's not grey but ash hair tends to have a grey hue, the ash blondes that is. I LOVE ashy hair.
My friend is very pale skinned and blushes very red. Her natural haircolor is kind of orange/red/yellow and she has dark brown eyes. She would like to dye it a shade of brown so that when she blushes it does not blend with her haircolor. I was reading a hair coloring guide and it said to dye it an "ash" color. Isn't ash gray?
