QuoteReplyTopic: Color & Flourescent Lights Posted: March 29 2007 at 7:53am
I would appreciate all opinions on this please.
My hair is naturally a meduim brown. Ive got quite alot of gray, especially on top and around my face. I get it colored to cover the gray and after about a week or two, I notice that the gray turns green sometimes and purplish/blue. Its semi-perm color, Im aware that it fades over time, but surely this is wrong.
I work 5-6 days a week, usually 8 hour days under a flourescent light, about 4-5 feet from directly above my head. Its pretty close. Im wondering if this light could possibly be pulling the color out and causing this mess? Its terrible!
Im aware that tanning beds and natural light outdoors over time can fade it, but this?
Any opinions or suggestions??
Thank you !!

I personally dont think it has anything to do with the light above your head. I think it may be you have resistant white (grey) hair, meaning the grey at the roots and the sides the semi colour is not penatrating into these areas because it is resistant, this basically means the hairs cuticle is not opening enough during the colour process, that it will not except the colour fully. I dont know if you do it at home , or you go to a salon to have it done. If its a salon then you should advise them of this and they will either pre-soften theses resistant areas first with a neat 10 vol peroxide, and/or apply an intensive colour to penatrate deeper into the cuticle and cortex.

T/Y for your reply ! I do have resistant gray. I had been using the 6-12 shampoo out color with no peroxide, this time I went to the salon and she used 10 vol peroxide and well see what happens. She said it was possible that the light was pulling the color out.
