QuoteReplyTopic: I have a question about bleaching. Help? ><; Posted: April 10 2007 at 5:50pm
I just bought a kit from garnier that bleaches hair, and also black hair dye. My hair is dark brown.
I just wanted to know how would I bleach highlights into my hair. I know I would first have to dye my hair black first and leave the parts I wanted bleached untouched. But, would I have to put aluminum foil to cover the parts I want bleached?

OK first of all don't color your hair black if your hair is not black! It's a PitA to get your hair lighter when you want to go lighter. Also throw down that home highlighting kit as it will not lighten the hair enuff and you will end up with orange highlights.
Get this done in a professional salon or at a beauty school for a very reasonable price....probably $30 - $50 at a beauty school. Attempting this yourself and if you mess it will will result in corrective color work by a trained professional and then you are looking at big bucks $150 and up to get it fixed properly.
I'm not going to get into details because it's too involved...but I'm a licensed Hairstylist with many years of experience....don't try this yourself. Those home highlighting kits are garbage...I've seen nothing but disasterous results from people using those. Spend the extra few bucks and goto a beauty school and have it done for only a few more bucks properly.
