Hello everyone....I've searched the posts and have come up with some ideas through situations that were close to mine but I'm still not sure what to do.
Any advice would be so much appreciated!
About two years ago I started (professionally) dyeing my hair probably one or two shades lighter that it's natural color. Naturally I'm dark brown. Then I was in an accident which kept me going to physical therapy and with a 3 year old, no time for hair appointments. So instead I would just do at home color which worked nicely until I decided that I wanted to go back to my natural color so that all I would have to do is root touch ups due to grays starting to pop up. Soooo.....I went to a professional and said I want the color of my roots (that were about an inch showing). I walked out with dark brown hair and black ends (mind you, not noticing this inside the salon because of the lighting I guess). I got home and inspected the results and immediately panicked. So I grabbed a box of Frost - n- Glow for Dark Brown to Black hair (Revlon, I think) that I had and pulled my hair through the cap. I did this hoping that some highlight would mix with the black and tone down the harsh look. Well, the highlights turned orange. PANIC AGAIN....I grab a box of the lighter brown color that I had been using previously and slapped that on. I ended up with EXACTLY what I had before. Dark brown with orange "highlights" mixed in on top and black on the ends. So that's when I FINALLY admitted defeat and stopped. I put on ALOT of the Biolage Leave-In Treatment and called it a night. Now I'm at a loss. What can/should I do?
what you SHOULD do: go to the salon and tell them you were unsatisfied and took matters into your own hands and now have more of a mess than you did before and need them to fix it
what you would do if you were me because i dont go to the salon: condition it well with deep moisturizing conditioner, over the next week also use a clarifying shampoo to see if the ends dont lighten up a good bit....then use a semi/demi permanent color in the brown shade that you wanted (carefully testing a small section first)...........im not a pro, lets see what they say, good luck, and take care of that hair!

Thank you NURSIE.....I probably would have gone right back to the salon as soon as I realized just HOW black the ends really were when I got home but I live on an island where I have to take the ferry to, what I call, America (the mainland) and from. So going back to the salon takes a little more planning than just jumping in my car and driving there unfortunately :o(
Let me tell you what I desperately did this morning....through information that I picked up from this forum, I mixed 1 tbls. clarifying shampoo with 1 tbls. developer from a highlighting kit that I had sitting around bcuz I didn't have the guts to actually use it for its intended purpose after I bought it. So I got in the shower and shampooed all of my hair with Dawn dishwashing liquid....seems like quite a bit of color showed up in the suds. Then I rinsed that out really good. Then I took the half shampoo/half developer mixture and shampooed only my ends for about 1 minute.....a little more color showed up in the suds. Then I rinsed that out for a long time. Then I applied Joico K-Pac for about 5 minutes. Rinsed. Now that my hair is dry I can see that what I did helped a little bit. Do you, or anyone else, know if I can do this again? Or is it to harsh? If another go around is fine, should I leave the half shampoo/half developer on a bit longer? Also, regarding the K-Pac....how often can I use that? I was told a long time ago that using some deep conditioners more than once a week can actually cause hair to become brittle (something about the protein).
I'm so upset that his happened and I also feel like an idiot!
get a deep conditioner that is labeled 'moisturizing' (i have no brand loyalty, just get one that has that on the label)......yes if it is 'reconstructing' or 'fortifying' and has 'protein' all over the label you dont need that right now (and you're right, too much protein= dry and brittle)
do that for a couple of days at least before you take to another round of soap capping and keep conditioning after that
