Curly hair for a guy??? Help!

I am a 32 year old guy, married with a couple kids. I really want to do something different with my hair (not totally outrageous) - in particular I want to have curls. I have thick, wavy hair that most females tell me they`d "die for". It is about 2-3 inches right now and I realize I`ll need to grow it out.

My question is are there any products I can use in it that will really "pump up" the curl? And, is this look at all "in" for men right now (since it would be a little longer look)? Also, I am only about 5`7" ... do you think a little longer hair looks alright on "shorter" guys? Oh yeah, I have an oval face.

I`m attaching a photo I found online of a style I really like. It is on a girl, but it is really pretty close to what I have been thinking I would like to try. If product alone wouldn`t get me there, what are my other options? Are there others?
