My own hair is naturally wavy to the point that if I let it air dry I have lots of waves, especially in the back.  I also have a lot of natural curls along the nape of my neck that have been weighed down by my hair which I wear approximately 5-6" below my waist.

In the summer of 2005 I had a horrible highlighting experience that ultimately turned my hair orange.  Celebrity hairdresser Robert Hallowell (Geena Davis - who has naturally curly hair) actually helped me recover from orange to darker blonde.

But for years I was afraid to let anyone touch my hair.  Curly hair expert Barbara Lhotan (Elie Elie salon in Winchester, Virginia) also helped me with ongoing hair color advice and she always is my go-to hairdressers for any curly hair info I need.

Finally after 2 years of long (and I mean really long) darker blonde roots (my hair is dark blonde naturally) I finally decided to try and get someone to fix my highlights.

I found a hair angel.  But it took months of asking for recommendations, reading reviews and studying my options.  I found a women who has her own booth in a salon in Dallas.  It is not too far from SMU and if off Central near Mockingbird Station.

She fixed my highlights perfectly (that is an interesting story all by itself).  But the big news is that she is an expert at cutting and coloring naturally curly hair.  In fact, when she was trimming my hair she said...wow...you have lots of natural curls around the nape of your neck.

Her name is Rose Zuniga. (214) 755-5628 http://tx.local.yahoo.biz/colorspecialistrosezuniga
6440 N Central Expy Ste 105
Dallas, TX 75206

She bills herself as a color expert (and she is - she made my hair look amazing) but while I was there I saw her work with curly hair and she does the individual curl cutting and shaping technique where she cuts each curl to nestle into its original shape and pattern.

She also uses Matrix SoColor hair color (along with other brands) and that is the color my hair responds best to.

I thought I would pass along Rose's info to any Texas girls.  She is also a lovely person and doesn't rush you.  In fact, initially I thought my hair was too dark (to blend the roots she did lowlights and lightlights) and she had me come back on Monday (her day off) to adjust the color for me to my satisfaction.  She spent 3 hours fixing it on her own time.

I was very impressed.

Rose had no idea that I am a hair addict.  She just thought I was a new hair client and she was doing her best to please  me.

I don't normally make recommendations because in the past I have gotten burned but I would recommend Rose for either hair color or curly hair cut and styling.

Please let me know how it turns out for you.

That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)

Thanks for the recommendation.  Is she expensive for a cut?  What about color?

I have always wanted to go to Ouidad or Lorraine Massey for a curly hair cut since they are both considered the "best" curly hair cutters in the US but I have heard that their costs are prohibitive and that neither accept new clients.

I would love to find someone affordable and would be willing to travel within reason to get a great cut.

I think you should do Google for this or give an advertise on your social sites. It rarely happen when a person come on forum for searching a hair stylist.
