1) Would you say that this hairstyle is a unisex hairstyle?



2) Would I have to have anything special done to my hair to make it that way? My hair is pretty straight and thick.

Yes, that's a unisex style.
 
I think if you go to a stylist and ask them to do this style (bring a picture) they will do a technique called razoring.
