Okay, I may officially by an "extension addict!"  I had four rows of Russion hand tied wefts installed about 3 months ago and have had them re-positioned and love them!!  When I just wash, condition and air dry my hair has the beach look - when I flat iron it has the nice sleel look.  My own hair is shoulder length, fine and highlighted.  I would love to add a fifth row in the fall, is that too much?  Let me know what you sew-in experts think.  Thanks!!

OMG a fifth row? You are an addict!
I'm sure it's fine, ask your extensionist what she thinks.

How many rows is normal? I have short hair and I'm going to DIY soon.. I thought I'd need much more than 5 rows

What's "normal" depends on your desired look.. I wear a full sew in now with a closure. When I wore a partial sew-in I would put in anywhere from 2 to 6 rows depending on the look I was trying to achieve.. So it's entirely up to you as to how many rows you put in..

I wish I had pics and could post them!!  But the amount of rows does depend on the look you want and the thickness.  When air dried it looks kinda like Elle McPherson, not me the hair!!  When hot ironed it looks like the new style Reese Witherspoon has.  I think for fall it may be nice to bring in more warmth of the like chocolate underlayers.  But right now my extensionist said it would be too warm (hear wise)for summer, so I will wait and see.

Again everyone is different.. I have people ask me all the time if the closure is "hot" when I wear it.. I live in the San Fernando valley and it gets hot as HECK here in the summer time.. To tell you the truth, I don't feel any hotter in this full weave and closure than I do just wearing my own natural hair.. One thing that's is true about me and heat is I hate hair on my neck and back when I'm hot.. But that's true whether I'm wearing a weave or not.. I personally think it's the "perception" some folks have about having something on your head making you feel "hotter"..
