QuoteReplyTopic: Please help My hair is almost DEAD Posted: August 30 2007 at 8:36am
I have always loved hair. I have a really bad commitment problem with my hair too. I need the change every couple of months, so i dye it a lot. Well about 6 months ago i was bleaching it every 3 weeks so keep putting manic panic color in. and then I decided that I wanted to let it grow and I blacked it. a month or so later I decided that I wanted to go close to my natural so i went light brown. I had to double bleach it.
NOW. I've decided that I want really light blonde. If i can get the right blonde i'll keep it there for at LEAST 4 months. but i've already bleached it once with born blonde maxi and it's not the shade i want. my roots and 2 inches to the tip is a pale yellow. but in between that it's more orangish copper. I'm gonna need to bleach it again to get the really light blonde I want, but i'm scared. my hair is strechy. i can stretch individual strands when it's wet. it doesn't break immediately when i stretch it... It takes some force. But it still stretches. AND when it's dry it feels so dry. almost like messed up barbie hair.
I don't know what to do. I don't like the color it's in now but i've felt cotton candy hair after I had a bad perm and I don't want it to get like that again.
Can somebody please help me?

I really truly hate to say this, but once hair is damaged. It's damaged. There is NO way to repair it. I think what you should do is get a short pixi cut and grow it out and start over again. The short pixi cut is recommended due to the fact that the longer your hair is the greater chance you have of it breaking...the weight of the length of each strand will just snap the hair off. Geting a shorter cut may save what you have right now. Anyway, you should also know that hair can only take THREE bleachings. You are lucky to have your hair now. Maybe in the future if you really feel you need that much change in color of hair you really ought to consider purchasing some wigs...I don't mean this in any negative way by the way. It is actually best to find a color that you like and stick to it. Good luck and I hope this helps.
As a gal that has had to go as far as shave my head due to damage of coloring etc i could'nt agree more with rebekah .Shady baby if you keep going that cotton candy looking hair maybe yours sooner than you think. I'm growing my hair out now ,It is only right about 1.5 inches long. I wish i had never did all i did to ruin it in quest of a color i love or whatever .Now that i think about it changing my hair was'nt what i was trying to change when i was doing so much to my hair at all .My hair had nothing to do with it .I felt that if i changed my hair it would help me not to focus on what really needed to be changed which was alot harder to do and not an instant fix or instant gratification in a box or tube. This may or not be your problem but one thing for sure all the hell of coloring is'nt worth being bald hun .Trust me i know cause i've so been there. However people did complement me alot on my nice shaped head lol.Good luck to ya
I can't go too short. my hair right now is a little longer then my shoulders, and I did bleach it again and it didn't do much of anything, which basically says that it's too damaged. the middle section of my hair didn't change color much, all it did was take out some redness. so i'm going to cut it chin length and let it grow out fully. which will be hard because genetically i have a LOT of grey, but i'm gonna wait until I have fully natural hair on my head then take it to a salon and ask them to get me light blonde. it's gonna be difficult but I think I can do it.
a woman at sally's told me that she has damaged her hair to the point that her natural color is black and her hair comes in a med blonde...she is hispanic so i don't know how that works but that is what she said....listen to rebekah and chicklet......you could get some bonacure rescue repair shampoo and conditioner and that would make your hair at least feel better but rebekah is sooo right...once it is damaged it is damaged....i say sitting here with my short haircut due to OVERDYING, BLEACHING, ECT....now i am not doing that because of the harm i caused myself....i'd leave it alone if i were you. good luck.
happy coloring

lay off the hair color for about a month and deep condition it alot for a in that month and then maybe put a temp color like matrix prizm color gloss. anyway i am also a hair color addict, i want every color i seee.. people that dont have this addiction dont understand.
mom is a hairdresser and changes her color alot, i think our hair has gotten so used to the abuse because it never falls out just breaks after months of abuse, anyway i will never stop dying my hair, changing colors brings me such joy and happiness!
I think you should get some protein filler (from a beauty supply store) start by leaving it on your hair a few times for 20 minutes for at least one week.
Then,I would not bleach it again right away. I would pick a light blonde color, maybe one that is ash toned since you mentioned an orange tone in your hair. Mix the dye with the protein and color as usual.
The color probably wont end up being as blond as you want, but should help lighten some and counteract the orange.
Then give your hair a break! Only color again if doing your roots and nothing else. Use the protein filler to help fill in the weak spots in your hair.Once or twice a week and deep condition ALOT.
You dont have to cut the hair off completely, but get a few trims here and there.
Then,in a few months when hair feels better, you can try going lighter.
I know hair dye is fun,but if you keep going as you are you may end up with a chemical hair cut. Trust me,I have had two and when hair is at that point of no return it is one of the worst things that can happen and it takes a very long time before it looks good again.

Umm chancebrown, hair coloring does not damage brain cells. I really hope you were joking and dont really believe that. If it was that bad of a chemical, do you think they would sell it in stores? No it would be illegal.

Maybe it could damage brain cells if you are inhaling the fumes from it...I have read studies about how you shouldnt color your hair while pregnant because it could be bad for the baby.I dont think they ever found anything conclusive, but doctors do tell you sometimes as a precautionary not to dye your hair while pregnant if you can help it.

It has been proven the toxic from the peroxided going into the skin of your head while waiting for color to show up effect 3-5 brain cells to die each time
When you dye your hair your taking your own Risk and Chance's

You have to use peroxide in order to lift your natural color. Someone whose hair is naturally light can go darker without peroxide, but someone with medium to dark hair will only be able to go darker or change the tone of the color (redder, warmer, cooler).
