That's so true.I hightlighten my hair a few months ago.I dyed it a dark auburn & the color faded fast. The highlights turned a ugly copper color. So, now I use Artec color shampoo & conditoner that depostis color. That stuff is great.U can buy it online. They r discontinuing Artec color, but it's a new name,Loreal. They have all kinds of pretty blonde colors. It has helped my red color. If I were u.I'd get a brown color in Herbal Essences & then get the Herbal Essences Hightlights. The highlights u can use on colored hair.It says it on the box.I use to do that to my hair.I just like red better for me.That depositing stuff really does work.I will say this, I like the conditiner the best.Because u can use it everyday. The shampoo u can only use every other time u wash ur hair.U can read reviews about Artec color online.Check it out.Well, good luck!!

Yes I agree with worldsaver. I have dyed over highlights before (also using a reddish brown color) What happens is that it does color the highlights, but the color does usually fade fast from the highlighted areas as lightened hair sometimes does not hold color as well.
Or it could take the color more so,depending on the porousity of the hair.
well..I would guess no, you'd probably get some orange results because color can't really lift color. you might be able to if it's only a shade or so lighter. It might be worth a strand test to see! I definitely would not do it without a strand test!
your highlights will probably take the color, but are likely to fade so you'd have some subtle highlights
Hi, my hair is a dark brown I dyed it medium brown a couple of months ago and did some blonde highlights. I now need to dye it again but I wonder if I can use the light brown. Last time the medium brown was to dark I want to try a Light reddish brown would this affect the highlights.
