Hi all. Malibu and I were discussing the topic of wefts so I thought it would be a good idea to get a lot of opinions and people's experiences with wearing them.
When I say weft, I am referring to the top part where it is sewn and not the hair itself.
The wefts I am currently wearing are hard. They have a stiff coating on them that is supposed to prevent shedding. They do that with flying colors but also they are quite stiff and though you can’t see them, they can be felt quite readily.
So the next time I get hair and brand new wefts, I wanted to try to find something a little softer and more pliable that lies perfectly flat against the scalp. However, I want to avoid shedding as much as possible as we all do of course. That’s money down your shower drain and in your brush!
So tell us about your wefts, the good, the bad and what has worked out best for you. I hope its okay to say vendor names if it’s being solicited? Just go for it.

You mean like a tiara?
In my opinion, a weft shouldn't need such a coating to stop it from shedding. I think the coating wasn't meant for shedding (even tho' that's what you were told). I think it was meant for the protac users because they weren't always coated with such a substance. Since they weren't always coated, they would start to come apart. Hence the new coating that makes that weft feel like a wire.
If ever I don't like the weft from a vendor, I buy the hair in bulk and have Extensions Plus weft the hair. Their wefts are nice and soft and never shed.
Yeah i dont like these wires. They feel just like that! Also, they are much more difficult for a stylist to try to sew in. I am going to try EP and the bulk hair for certain next time around.

As far as wefts go, I loved the wagman primus wefts. I thought they had a nice density, were very flat and had no beard. They were my favorite wefts. My least favorite wefts were some zig zag wefts of virgin indian hair. They were messy and shed and the sealant I used made the little bumps of the zig zag dig into my scalp.
I don't mind my russian wefts. They were very stiff when I got them too from the sealent. But, I bent them around and around and they got more pliable. After my first take down with acetone & orange oil remover they were much much better. i know that you can get them without the sealent, and if you are doing sew ins, that may be the way to go krimsa.
Yes I’m wearing the Russian wefts so you know what I am speaking of lol. No complaints on the hair, it’s gorgeous but these wefts!
Just curious how does Wagman makes the wefts with no beard? It seems like the hair needs to be folded over somehow. I wonder also if you sent them bulk hair, would they be able to make wefts that also had no beard or does it have something to do with the type of hair? That’s worth investigating. The absence of beard would be a huge plus. It’s not that big of a deal as the Russian hair is quite fine in texture so it’s not like it jabbing my scalp but if I could have no beard that would be good.
I’m on my second sew in now with the same Russian wefts and you are right, they do become more pliable over time probably just from showers, body heat and they mold against your scalp. They were much worse when I very first had them installed.
I think when I finally decide to get some new hair, I will go with bulk and then try to find out more about wagman and EP and if they will allow you to send hair to them for wefting that is not their own. I think EP does but not certain on wagman.

Yah, I don't know if wagman wefts or not. They must trim the fold over hair somehow during the wefting process. I wish all wefts could be like that, but the beard on the russian isn't bad. It only bugs me when it's hot out so it's all right....
Yes the Russian is so fine anyway. Its not really a problem but you can still feel it with your fingers and stuff. I will look into Wagman but this hair I have now seems to be lasting forever.
Wagman Primus is a wholesale distributor.. Unlike Extensions Plus, Wagman Primus is not in the hair business.. They are simply a distributor and human hair is only ONE of many products they distribute/sell.. That said they (Wagman Primus) have a wefter they will recommend if you call and inquire. However, he IS NOT the wefter who wefts the no-shed wefts of their Perfectress hair.

Either them or EP but I have heard really good things about Wagman on a couple different forums now so will start there. I am just not so thrilled with these current wefts I am wearing and would prefer something a little softer.
One last thing, Wagman's wefter only does hand tied wefts.. If you want machine wefts you should contact Extensions Plus. (I dunno if Extensions Plus does hand tied wefts for outside hair..)

Regarding the original topic.. Hand tied wefts will ALWAYS need to be sealed as they are more susceptible to damage. I prefer machine wefts for this reason. The few hand tied wefts I have in my hair stash have been sealed as a precautionary measure..

My second fave is www.perfectlocks.com. Their prices are great, they do custom colors and also have excellent customer service. With Perfect Locks you have to be very specific about what you want. I have not liked every order I've had from them but have been pleased 99% of the time with their product. I would send a pic of what I want and ask to see pics of the hair I ordered before I pay for it IF it's the natural color not a custom color. For their Euro texture match just ask for silky Indian remy.
Neither of these companies is going to break the bank. Start your habit girl. Order some samples from them right away.

Oh lord, don’t get me started on ATM runs in casinos! I’m one of those types that will take X amount of money to a gambling establishment and then when that is immediately gone, start hitting the ATM and spend my rent! Lol.
Diva, I have read on forums that usually the machine wefts are bulkier and can not be made as small. That can be complete bologna but it’s been said a few times. So because I have a small head and fine hair, I thought it best to stick with the smallest weft I could find to make the tiniest track so that way my natural hair can cover it easily. So can you get a really small, flat laying track with a machine weft or is it always better to go with hand tied? Also, you hear the term "micro weft" thrown around a lot and that would seem to imply it’s a very small weft that is easily concealed. Is that not always the case?
Also as far as the wefts I’m wearing now. They are quite readily concealed and you can not see them. Even if I pin my hair up on the sides, I can easily pull my natural hair kind of up and over the weft line so it’s totally covered. In that respect I’m happy. But if you run your fingers through it, its like wires wrapped around my head. lol. It feels like shellac like Malibu was saying and too stiff.

None of my machine wefted hair is any bulkier than the hand tied hair I have..
I personally do not like micro hand-tied wefts.. For me, I find that hand tied wefts are already too delicate, and micro hand-tied wefts are even more so. Plus many of the micro hand-tied wefts I've seen do not provide enough coverage or volume unless you double or even triple them per row, and if you have to do that then you have to ask why bother getting wefts that thin to begin with..
Dunno what your wefts are sealed with, but the weft sealant I use doesn't leave my wefts stiff or hard..

I dont know what is on these wefts either. I asked and was told "sealant to keep them from shedding". They dont shed one speck but are too hard. Im guessing it is some kind of waterproof polyester coating or something that makes them impervious to water, thus the stiffness.
Honey, Im broke and cant be spending a lot of money on hair that is just sitting around. Basically i can only save up and buy the hair i will be installing right then. The reason for that is I am trying to be a good girl and STOP using my credit card for hair services. GL nearly knocked me out.
I have been given some good tips on vendors that do free samples. Wagmen is one. Im gong to start ordering free samples of hair and wefts if they have that and see what looks good. Thanks for the help.
