QuoteReplyTopic: Maybe Going Blonde Posted: July 05 2002 at 10:15am
I have been coloring my hair for a few years a plum brown as my hair is a medium brown. I am quite grey now and heard that blonde doesn`t show grey as bad and that way would not have to color as often as I have to now. My deal is I have been told a few different ways to go about it by professionals and want to make sooooooo sure I do it the right way and not fry my hair. Should I remaove all color? Should I just do alot of highlights (foil)? Or should I just put the color on all over and go from there? My hair is in good condition, I take very good care of my hair and condition and treat since I do color. I know Blonde can be harsher on the hair and would be interested in the best to do with it also. Thank you for all help
Hello! It is true that blonde hair blends in gray easier than darker colors. You will have to due your roots more often though as the contrast between the blonde and dark roots will be greater. Unless you are more than 50% gray. So, its a toss up. If you decide to go blonde try to keep your hair shorter. The longest I suggest is shoulder length. Its just easier to keep healthy and if you end up doing your own roots it is alot simpler. If you can afford to have it done for you by all means pay for it. :) Now, about getting the plum brown out. You need to get a color remover that does NOT have any bleaching agents in it. I suggest Colorfix by Jherri Redding(at Sally`s Beauty Store) or Igora Modulat(online only). They help break down the tint so you can wash it out with a clarifying shampoo. You will need several applications. Then when you get as much as you can out with that you can bleach. Take a look at the "Going Bonde Message Board". It is by far the best place to go for blonde advice. I always recommend this place! :) It is really wonderful.

With your hair being medium brown, it sounds like your best bet would be to get an overall lightening then have blonder highlights put in. I`m afraid just doing blond highlights might give too drastic of a difference between your regular hair color and the highlighted areas. Of course, some people like that look but to me it is not natural looking plus I think lightening overall also will help hide the gray better. Just my 2 cents worth.
