Hi All,
I`m hoping someone can help with this question... My 4 yr old daughter has white blonde hair. She loves to swim and of course the chlorine turns her hair green. I`ve spent a lot of money and tried several clarifying products to get the green out with no luck (even tried 2 step products).

Does anyone know of a remedy that will work? Your help is appreciated!

Regards,
Mom of 5

I don`t know if it would work (I have dark hair), but have you tried vinegar and water? You could try a very diluted solution one tablespoon in like 3 cups of water or even probably more vinegar. It smells funny at first but the sent does wash out. Conditioning after rinsing with the water and vinegar also helps with the smell.

The problem is due to high concentrations of copper dissolved in the pool water. This can chemically interact with chlorine and the resulting chemical compound readily binds to the hair cuticle. It has also been reported that high levels of copper in tap water can also turn hair green.

There are several options for treatment for this problem, including application of warm vegetable oil, hydrogen peroxide, and lemon juice.

You can help reduce the build-up of metals and remove some oxidized metals from your hair by using shampoos which contain the chelating agent EDTA (ethylenediamene tetracetic acid). Washing your hair in warm water containing dissolved aspirin will have a similar result.

It`s a good idea to put some conditioner on the hair and then put on a tightly fitting swimming cap so that there`s less of a chance for pool water to contact or be absorbed by your hair.

Hope this helps. Have a great summer! ;)
