QuoteReplyTopic: super hair factory raising Bohyme prices Posted: January 24 2008 at 9:12am
I just called and placed an order with Super Hair Factory, and they told me as os Feb 1st, prices on all Bohyme products will increase by 10-20%. They said it was because the shortage of good hair.
I have received other letters from my other extension / hairpiece vendors all stating the same, that due to increased demand and shortage of supply, prices will be going up.
I wonder if the Bohyme company is raising their prices, and therefore the distributors are raising their's too, or if Super Hair Factory is just getting greedy.
Sherrie, is Bohyme increasing prices to distributors?
By the way, Bohyme will also be at the Long Beach show this weekend, which regrettabley I can't attend.
I am concerned about the shortage of good hair, since this is my business and how I make my living. Higher prices will decrease the amount of clients willing and able to buy hair extension services.
So anyone have any news on how the 'hair cloning' is coming along. I know scientists are working on it. My gosh, if they can clone a sheep than you'd think that they could clone some great hair!
I always wondered if this was going to happen with such a high demand for quality hair.Thats quite an increase.i will be curious to find out more about this. What kind of hair is this brand of bohyme?Asian or indian?

Now this truly has me curious.. Is this for real?? Is there really work being done in this arena, or just wishful thinking??

Do a google search for 'hair cloning' and you will get some info. Mostly what they are trying to do is clone a person's hair and then use that cloned hair for a hair transplant on that same person. But if they can do that, then I'm sure the extension and wig companies would love to get a part of that action.
I think Bohyme is a mix of Indian and Chinese hair.

Sheesh....another price increase? I'm not sure Metalgirl, I havent placed any orders with Bohyme recently and I havent recieved any notices of an increase, although it wouldnt surprise me. Bohyme had a HUGE increase in price last spring, so Im shocked that they would have another big increase so soon....they normally resist increases as long as they can. Prior to the price increase last spring it had been several years since they raised prices.

Fascinating.. Gotta do some reading.. Thanks for the information!

I wouldn't be concerned about the lack of human hair for extensions any time soon. For Russian virgin hair, yes. But there's all kinds of countries that have darker European hair. I've bought hair from Moldova, and Georgia. The hair is dark but it's not as coarse as Asian, and it's a lot softer. But, not as fine and soft as Russian. It reminds me of Indian hair, but it's not poofy, and comes in stick straight to wavy/curly, no super curly.
I don't know the census on Europe, or India but there's enough hair there to last for at least our life time.
I will have a line of extensions that uses Russian virgin hair and Indian hair blended together in the weft. I will be able to sell it for a better price plus I really like Indian hair, especially if you have a good seller that can offer you soft virgin hair with not many split ends, and no nits.
You heard it here, I believe blended hair is the future of high quality hair extensions. Right now I'm buying as much Russian hair as I can afford because if the trend continues this hair will be more valuable than gold.
As far as Asian hair, if you don't have coarse stick straight hair then it must be processed by removing the cuticle to thin down each hair shaft, and make it appear like Caucasian hair. This procedure is very hard on the hair making it usable for about 8 to 12 weeks, it varies. If someone can come up with a gentler process than muratic acid they could make a bundle selling Asian hair.
Muratic acid? Is that what they use?? That's some serious stuff!! I used that when I made jewelry in an oxidation process. YIKES!!! I'm surprised it doesn't completely destroy the hair.
Back to the Russian hair topic....I have fine hair and it's pretty curly. Indian hair has been the best match and the hair I've been wearing for several months really does not tangle. The Russian hair I tried (3 different batches, not purchased from Mokipono) did INDEED tangle and it wasn't as fine as the Indian hair.

my Russian hair tangles like crazy too ! its out of control i have to laterly pull out my brush every hour or so and comb my hair . My next Russian hair will be purchased from Mokipono thats for sure. Although I just got some indian hair ( dyed in 613) mixed in with my russian hair and besides for the sparse black hair here and there the texture is close to mine ( Im european) and doesnt tangle as much.
I just did a price comparison, and yes Super Hair Factory has raised their prices.
I was looking at 4 ounces of hand tied bohyme in body wave 18" and at Super Hair Factory they want $179 while at ebonyline it was listed as $129.
I guess I won't be shopping at Super Hair Factory anymore. What I did like about them is that they would sell you the hand tied by the piece, so you can mix and match color.
I don't think Bohyme is coated, or if it is, it's not that much. Bohyme is really the only brand that I can trust. Wagman's has been pretty ok too though but I haven't used it much.
I don't believe I ever said Bohyme specifically was coated or not, and I certainly never said that I thought Bohyme was a troublesome brand.
I had bought some hair from a few vendors overseas and it was their hair that was really coated.
I installed the overseas hair on about 10 people. When several clients got terrible matting within weeks, I found myself going out of pocket to replace hair and reinstall for free, so if that happened more frequently, yes it would ruin my business.
As it was, I did about 10 redos where I had to eat the cost. Since I run a professional business in a nice salon, my overhead is high, therefore anything that subtracts from my bottomline is detrimental to my business.
I have received many letters from various vendors stating something like "due to the shortage of premium remi hair, we are having to raise prices due to increased costs..."
Matting? Huh. That's never good. So you didn't have a problem with the coating making the install slip out? I guess that was....plasticgirl who said that.
