I haven't tried it personally, but read the HE101 link I posted.. You can read a first hand account from someone who did try this, and more information about WHY this works..

Despite the fact that some of these bleach bath instructions INSIST that you must use Clorox brand bleach, i wanted to add that Clorox is just a BRAND name. Clorox is still just plain old chlorine bleach, and ANY brand of chlorine bleach and ANY brand of ammonia will work for doing a bleach bath.. Just make sure that you use the PLAIN chlorine bleaches and not the scented ones..

OK, this is info posted by Sexibeach on BHM (she is super knowledgable about lace wigs and natural hair care).

BLEACH TIP TO DETANGLE YOUR UNIT

1. Mix one gallon of very hot water (hottest available from the tap) with 1/4 cup of Clorox bleach. (Do not use old Clorox or a generic brand, it won’t work)

2. Totally submerge the human hair unit into the water for approximately 2 or 3 minutes.Do not leave longer than 3 minutes Small bubbles will normally appear durring the process. Comb or brush very gently when submerged.

3. Remove hair unit and submerge in a basin of luke warm water that has been pre mixed with shampoo. Gently lift in and out for about 3 minutes and also brush or comb the hair very gently when submerged. Remove and blot dry

4. Mix 1/4 cup of ammonia to 3 cups of warm water. Dip hair unit in and out twice.

5. Repeat step 3

6.Apply conditioner, rinse and style.

Your wig will look brand new and be tangle free

So is the bleach method not to be used that often because it will eventually change the hair color, also you can saturate the unit with nexxus or a deep conditioner on the unit place in a plastic bag, nuke in the microwave for 30 seconds, and then put back in again for another 15 seconds.

Oh yes, I have heard of it...let me go see where the exact instructions are. I think DivaV may have posted them before on here, if you do a search. Be right back....

On another forum, I read about giving terribly tangled hair a bleach bath as a last resort. I did not have horrible hair issues at the time so I did not bookmark the site.

Apparently, you submerge the hair in a solution of bleach/hot water while combing through it (holding the weft upright). After rinsing thoroughly an ammonia solution is applied.

Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

Sounds crazy, I know, but I am desperate. My hair looks like three day dead roadkill on a windy day Angry
