platinum to auburn

I apologize in advance if this is too picture heavy; I wanted to give as much info as I could!!

I had my roots touched up yesterday and toned when I came home, but for some reason I was not excited about it like I usually am. So I realized that I've been light blonde for over a year and a half which is quite a long time with one color, at least for me =)

I've been thinking about an auburn color for awhile now, and at this point I'd like a dark, rich auburn, which I think would be appropriate especially since summer is coming to an end. I love this color Lindsay Lohan had (WHY did she try blonde?):

I’m not worried about it being dark, I’ve been brunette before:

SO my question is, how should I go about doing this? I’ll probably have some virgin roots showing when I decide to take the plunge.
I’ll need some sort of filler, yes? Should I do permanent, semi, demi?
I’d like to use Satin hair color because I’ve heard only good things about it, and this swatch (5R) is gorgeous:
