Hi Dana,
This really does depend on the condition of your hair, plus the depth your hair is now. I have done soap caps on a few clients, it does lift the colour a shade lighter, but can leave the hair very warm toned ( orangy) this method can still leave the hair porous, but not as bad as a full head bleach. Has your stylist not mentioned anything about colour removers, ie colour fix, again it really depends on how much build up of colour you have.
I would recommend you do this process gradually, with hi lights. The condition of your hair is the most important point here.
I am meeting with my stylist this week to see what he says about the condition of my hair and if bleaching would be in order. I have read a lot about bleaching in one go, but, very little about doing it gradually.
Has anyone ever tried (or have an opinion on) bleaching gradually like one level at a time? I have seen occasional mention of doing the Soap Cap method where you use shampoo/conditioner, bleach, and 10 vol.
Has anyone tried this or bleaching one level at a time with bleach/10 vol. gradually over several weeks? I would think this would be less damaging. I am thinking I may try to go one level at a time until I get back to my natural level 6/7 and then going from there the rest of the way in one step to avoid the yellow and orange levels.
Anyway, I am thinking either this or a couple good cut/highlight sessions as Karen has suggested. Honestly, money is a huge issue. My stylist charges like $150-$175 for one cut with highlights, so getting to all over blond would cost me quite a lot.
