getting more curles with my long hair

hey, i have long hair, it goes down to almost my chin on the sides, ive just been cutting it myself for awhile and i really have no idea what im doing. im planning on getting a real haircut soon, i have very straight fine hair, and i want it to look really messed up and atleast somewhat curly. like surfer style hair i guess.
for the past like 5 years ive been curling it myself, like just scrunching while it was still wet, but it gets old and i want something that takes little or no work to get it to how i want every day.
so any tips on how i should get my hair cut would be great

i dont want it to be super curly though, just a little, like some wave to it, just so its not straight. how long do perms last? do many guys get perms? is there a specific style i should ask for?
