I already tried Yahoo Answers and Answerbag - 19 hours and no answer. It's all idiots on Yahoo anyway - The only answers I'll ever get there is one from a spammer saying "Hey check out my product", and another from a Christian preacher.
So I thought I'd ask on here.

I've went with my natural hair style for years, and I don't really like it. I hate the way my hair goes, it almost goes into a ball. I could get straighteners - But first I wanna figure out how to get my hair like this guy :

I think it'd make a good change for my hair.
Would I use gel? Isn't my hair too long for gel? It's about shoulder length.

This hair style is fairly easy to achieve with some practice.  The key is a flat iron and the right combo of product.  My hair is fairly thick and has some natural curl it.  I start by blow drying completely.  When my hair is dry, I use a pliable paste like Redken Rewind which I rub through the crown and down to the roots.  Next I use a flat iron - I comb out small sections starting near the crown in back and working forward.  Comb one small section then spray it once or twice with a light hold pump spray like Garnier Pure Fix.  Then flat iron the section starting near the scalp and moving to the end.  It will probably sizzle but the Pure Fix will protect your hair.  Do not cook your hair.  This section should stand up nearly straight.  Continue to work toward the front and sides taking small sections at a time and repeating the spray/flat iron.  At this point, you hair will look a little like Bart Simpson and it is time to style.

I then use a Dry Wax - Paul Mitchell.  Take a very tiny amount in your fingers and rub it on the length of small sections or pieces of the sections you flat ironed.  Do not over use the wax, you basicall are taming down and piecing out the sections to achieve the staggered spikey look you see in the picture.  I usually hit the whole thing with some spray after I am happy with the result.  Keep in mind you probably want to start with the sections a little more exagerated as the hair will calm down over time.

It just takles a little practice.
