QuoteReplyTopic: My hair was cut 4in shorter than I asked for! Posted: April 01 2001 at 3:43am
Ok, I went to get my hair cut today since the last three inches were looking scraggly and tangled badly(my hair was 4in past my waist - been waist-length since I was 5). Since I knew there was some damage above that I decided to take the plunge and get 6in cut off - that would put it 2in above my waist - the shortest I would have had it in years, but I felt that getting the damage off would be worth it. Well, I went to the Pro-cuts in College Station(I know, not a salon or anything, but it wasn`t as if this was a complicated cut or anything - I had been going to the one in my hometown with great results - they always showed you a ruler to insure that the length you asked to have cut was the length you wanted). I should have been wary when the lady didn`t show me a ruler to confirm the length. Well, she snips away and the end result was at least 10in off! That was 4in more than I wanted - my hair is now 2in below my bra strap instead of 2in above my waist like it was supposed to be!!!! She must have cut her version of six inches instead of the official US Bureau of Standards version!! I cried from the moment I left the place all the way home. My fiance (who drove me) was supportive, but didn`t really understand why I was so upset, since the cut looked good and I still have long hair. I was so upset because having waist-length hair is part of my identity and now it is gone(until a year from now, when I should have regained waist-length status). It`s silly, but a large part of it is that my sister has bra-strap length hair and for years I teased her about that not being really "long"(it wasn`t compared to mine), but now I have the same length hair as her, so its like mine isn`t really long either. I know that is a skewed view of the universe, but still, it is one I`ve had a long time. The only good thing about this is that my hair does look good - the ends seem a lot thicker, as does my hair in general. However, I think this could have been accomplished without the extra 4in taken off - I know 4in doesn`t seem like a lot to most people since it wasn`t(to them) that drastic a change on me, but to me this is the shortest I`ve had my hair(proportionately) since I was 3 or so. I`ve gotten over my crying bout and most of my initial negative emotions, but I guess I just felt a need to rant to people who I think can understand my feelings. So thanks for "listening".

Hello, I really love long hair and so I think it has been a bad cut and ignorant thing what happened to you. This stylist is a jerk and should be kicked off out of her job why she doesn`t takes care of her clients wishes. Maybe you can write a little notice to your local newspaper to warn other women for this "salon".
4 inches extra cut off need a growing time about 8 months and this is something the stylist has stolen from you. I hope this worst thing will not cause frustration against your hair. Hair is a thing that always needs to be lovely managed why it can not repair itself from a biological point of view. I would suggest please try to feel solidly with your sister, you both are long haired human beings and you can motivate yourself each other seeing the beautiful long hair of the other part of family. Long haired people should stay together, there exist too much people who want to cut it off. I think for further trims you need a long hair friend who really loves your hair and will only cut off 1/8 inch or so.
Dear longhaired beauty, please stay in harmony with your hair and enjoy it`s growing. After one year or one year and some months the hair will get it`s waist length back.
