Right now, my hair is waist length. It is wavy, coarse, and thick. I am planning to grow my hair even longer, probably to knee length or classic length at the shortest.

My routine right now is CWC and oiling after my hair dries after each wash. I try to trim split ends when I can, keep my hair up most of the time, and use satin pillowcases.

Do I keep going along with this routine, or is there special care I should start with since I want to grow super long?

Wow it sounds like u have amazing long hair. Definately keep it growing. It sounds like you have a very good routine all ready. I say to stay on that current routine and let it grow as long as you possibly can. You should post pics! Id love to see ur length :)

Aww you should post pictures :) Let me ask you this, I am in the process of growing mine out as well to at least mid back but maybe even longer. I was wondering do you have any advice for me growing it out and what style can I do? Also what do you think of this length on a guy? Thanks :)

Welcome to LHC, LHSkwirl. Smile YOU must be comfortable about posting photos of your already impressive length. Really, though, as someone who has enjoyed long hair boards for some time, it's extremely rare for creepy folks to visit a HAIR site! lol I suppose it's too boring for them. You really have to enjoy hair, and like those wearing it, to stay interested. Moreover, the people you should be the *most* wary of are among those you see in real life!
As for growing, the toughest part is to ignore those urges to chop when your hair is frustrating, or when someone looks great in a new cut. Wait at least two weeks before you proceed to change things, and then do it slowly. When and if you DO trim, make it rare and be firm with the one who does it. If it's in a salon, bring a tape and a friend, and show the stylist what you mean by a quarter or half an inch. The less cutting you do, the happier you'll be with your progress. That's a rule of thumb, of course, for most people. Scalp massages by your SO may not help too much, but they can't hurt! Big%20smile Happy Growing, Bob

Aww, well, I'm not really scared of creepy folks. They can't really do much with a picture anyways, so I'm all for people looking at my hair if they wish! My main concern was privacy, but again, a length picture shouldn't be an issue, really. I'll post a pic soon.

I admit, I haven't really thought of my length as impressive! Of course, if I consider the fact that most people don't have waist length hair...

When it comes to trimming, I do it on my own using Feye's trimming instructions, so no scissor happy sylists get near my hair! :D

I agree that the urge to chop is tough, Bob S. I have been actively growing my hair for 5 years and I'm still at waist length because of chops and too many trims. I wonder where I might have been without those trims now. I'm seriously growing my hair now, and it is untouched for the most part, unless I snip those pesky split ends. I look better with long hair anyways!

Pburgh56, I do not think there's anything wrong with the length you have chosen on a guy. Honestly, since I love how long hair looks, I think it looks great on most, if not all people regardless of gender. Short hair can look great too, but long hair is impressive and more to my taste.

As for growing out-advice, this is what has worked for me:
-Benign neglect. I don't need to use a ton of products on my hair that make it sticky anyways. I just wash, let it dry on its own (no blowdryer because my hair can tangle), use a bit of olive oil if I remember, and put it up with a clip.

-I use a bit of oil on my length because it makes my hair softer, shinier, and it protects the hair. Many people report that olive is too heavy, but I like it. Besides, it was in the cupboard.

-I don't like using heat on my hair.

- I treat my hair gently and don't rip brushes and combs through tangles. This will break hair.

-Satin pillowcases make my hair tangle less than cotton ones.

-I make sure that the hair doesn't rub against seats and couches.

It sounds like a lot, but really, it is about doing a whole lot of nothing. It saves money and time.

As for styles, I'm really not gifted there! I usually bun my hair or do a french twist. I like keeping the hair off my neck in the summer. I do a simple three-strang braid sometimes too. I use scrunchies, hair sticks, or hair clips.

Thanks, and let me know if I can be of more help!

It sounds like your routine is pretty darn perfect to keep growing your hair longer. Avoiding harsh products and too much heat with a blow dryer, flat iron, or hot rollers is a great tip. Too many people think that they need all these products in their hair or need to blow dry it out every day. Looking forward to you posting a picture.

Your routine is amazing :) You are doing everything right in order to get the dream lengths that you want. Thank you for the kind words I agree with you. THe longer hair is the better on both genders. It just looks amazing :) What are your favorite styles to wear?

Hi longhairskwirl, it sounds like your haircare routine is very nourishing of your strands and that will definitely help you achieve the length you want to achieve.  flowers

Creepy folks?  Creepy folks?

Looks to his left.  Looks to his right.  Looks to his self...

No creepy folks here!

No seriously...

The people on this site are dedicated to your wellbeing.  Even the guys who find long hair very sexy and beautiful are very respectful of the guys and ladies who wear long hair.  NO "creepyness" will be tolerated.  That is why we have moderators... and, concerned posters

I think I speek for everyone here that this site is dedicated to hairstyles and helping people with hairstyles and most of all helping people to feel confident, attractive, uplifted, and to have the self-worth, and you deserve to be a confident, successful and lovely person in society today.  It's about making people better and being sensative enough to care about them.

Beauty is a part of our lives.  It effects us all.  Even though are society puts a lot of pressure on it, sometimes it's best to know about beauty because we are effected.  Our society does put a lot of emphasis on beauty.  It can have negative consequences.  But, in other areas... like learning about yourself... what you have that is beautiful and accentuating it... helps to get through the society we have.  This is how I see it and that is why I like to give advise on beauty.  Because, well... I feel it's a privallege to feel the way I do, and I should give something back... to help those who would like to know if they are beautiful and help them in anyway to achieve that goal.

That's how I see it.
Guys like me notice!
