I am new and have decided i want to add extensions to my almost shoulder length (and fine) hair.I want to do it myself and have seen from some of you guys posting that you have great hair you have done yourself. I was thinking of trying the micro links technique but was wondering if i can get the tools at a beauty supply store like Sally's? I like the strand by strand technique but any advise i would appreciate. My mom plans to help me so i wont be doing it alone. I am blonde now but naturally med. to dark brown, i am thinking of trying my natural shade with alto of blonde highlights but again, any advise would be really appreciated. I have limited knowledge on this subject and anything you guys can let me know about all techniques and and tips on doing it myself would be really helpful.  I am wanting long hair i was thinking 18" maybe 20". PLEASE help me with any info you have and again you guys hair is absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much.
Ashley

You should try www.fusionhairsupply.com They have practice kits for beginners before you actually start doing them for yourself.  I tried it and now cold fusion micro links is the only type of hair extensions I wear.

I am located in north mississippi, near memphis,tn. From what i have seen online it all really looks fairly easy and i have been checking in on fusion with the u tipped strand hair and i am really getting interested in that and i may want to try that. From all the tutorials i have seen and my moms expierence in hair  i am not really worried i just want any tips and hints or any helpful advise you guys have. As with anything, practice makes perfect and i am sure  after a few times we should be able to get it right but as i said  i would really appreciate any advice or hints and tips you have to offer.

Here are a few guidelines that will help you decide if hair extensions are right for you:
  • Your natural hair should be shoulder length or longer for at home extensions. Shorter hair requires additional preparation that should be left to a professional.

  • Your natural hair should be medium to thick in texture. Thin or fine hair will require additional preparation to hide the tracks and make the extensions appear natural.
