African American doll hair

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I thought someone here might have good advice for me.

I just bought a doll for a little African American girl. The doll is supposed to be African American, and she has beautiful dark skin, but her hair is long and straight. The little girl's hair is very curly.

Should I do something to the doll's hair to make it look more like the girl's?" I'm thinking of some kind of braids would be easier than trying to curl it. Or should I leave the hair long and straight? I don't want to make the girl feel like she should have straight hair.
