don't like tint - how to get hair back

   I am naturally dark blonde and have for years been getting a half head of highlights, usually a very light blonde and maybe some lowlights with that.

Last time I went to the salon my hairdresser suggested I go for an all over tint as I had darker bits underneath from my natural colour.

I did this and I am not too keen on it.  It doesn't look natural and my roots look awful, despite being naturally blonde.  The colour is slightly yellowy and I use the purple shampoo a few times a week and a blonde shampoo every day.

I want my hair back to what it was - is this possible?  I want my natural roots with my light highlights again.  I'm worried my highlights won't look as natural any more if they're done on a clean slate of hair, and I don't want the darker parts underneath - would a full head of highlights be the answer to this?

I want to be lighter blonde, but just to look natural.
