need help getting out the RED

Hi, my hair is med. brown. I colored it, using a ash blond. It came out w/a smoky grayish color, w/my roots red. The only thing i can think....is to get a color remover kit, then re-dye, but what color do i use? Do i use blue, violet or ash? Or should i use neutral? Someone please give advise!!!
